The 1017-ALYX-9SM Pre Spring 2025 collection, helmed by creative director Matthew Williams, presents a blend of tactical engineering and the reinterpretation of American classics. This collection explores Williams’ foundational design language, where simplicity meets complexity in an intricate dance of forms and functions. Key elements such as optic white, sky, matte black, bone, deep forest camo, and blasted indigo paint a palette that speaks to both austerity and opulence. These colors shape the collection’s casual silhouettes.

Fabric choices play a pivotal role in defining the textural narrative of the collection. Cotton shirting serves as the cornerstone, offered in both crisp and crumpled forms, following the collection’s raw aesthetic. This tactile range extends to ripstop fabrications that make cargo pants and multi-pocket ranger jackets visually compelling as well as light and functional.

The collection’s outerwear pieces, including spring oilcloth coats with waxed and creased textures accented by contrast suede collars, have a sense of rugged sophistication. These pieces, along with exaggerated versions of classic Harrington and MA-1 jackets, show Williams’ ability to push traditional boundaries and propose new silhouettes that maintain a clear link to their origins.

In terms of design details, the collection introduces new interpretations of the ALYX ‘A’ logo through innovative graphic modules. This season, the logo transforms into radial embroidery, a sportif stitched arrow motif, and a bold serif varsity stamp that decorates cotton tees, knit polos, an acetate cycling hoodie, and a coach jacket. The iconic ALYX rollercoaster buckle, a signature element inspired by the carnival vibes of Williams’ California youth, is incorporated into both Ready to Wear and accessory lines. From being a functional carpenter’s strap on raw denim jeans to a decorative element on scaled-down steel chain jewelry and nylon messenger bags, the buckle symbolizes the collection’s playful yet pragmatic approach.

Calf-length, lug-soled boots paired with blown-out ski pants featuring segmented knees and snap stud details speak to a robust, adventurous spirit of the collection. Meanwhile, half-zip fleece and waffle knit sweaters with taped mock necks bridge the gap between functional sportswear and high-fashion. See more of the collection in the Gallery below:
