RIO introduced its Spring Summer 2025 collection at LilliStar on Wednesday, September 11th, highlighting the official launch of its rebrand. This Los Angeles-based label, known for its inclusivity and independent spirit, brought 29 looks to the runway that captured the personal evolution of its founder, Rio Uribe. Drawing from his upbringing, travels, and the communities that shaped his vision, this collection exemplifies a cohesive blend of global influence and intimate personal reflection.

SPRING SUMMER 2025 WOMENSWEAR

Uribe’s connection to Los Angeles was clear in the collection’s core pieces, particularly through plaid shirts and creased khakis that echo the streetwear culture of his youth. These designs serve as a tribute to the city’s cultural and fashion landscape that continues to influence Uribe’s work. The fusion of streetwear elements with the tailored finish provides an unexpected yet harmonious blend of rugged and refined.

Another standout in the collection was the vibrant use of patchwork, created from fabric scraps sourced in New Delhi. These colorful garments highlight RIO’s commitment to sustainability while honoring the craft of the Indian artisans who also produce the brand’s UFO handbags. This gesture of cross-cultural exchange highlights Uribe’s intention of connecting his designs to a broader narrative, making each piece meaningful in its conception.

Voluminous skirts in magenta and teal, inspired by Bolivia’s Chola traditions, challenged conventional femininity, embodying strength and pride. The juxtaposition of these bold skirts against more minimalist, sharply tailored blazers and shirts further reflected RIO’s talent for merging seemingly disparate elements – streetwear with formal wear, tradition with modernity, femininity with strength.

Uribe’s global influences extended to classic tailoring, bringing the timeless elegance of Paris and New York into the collection. Structured black blazers and crisp white shirts maintained a sense of refinement while keeping the brand’s genderfluid ethos at the forefront. These pieces, while minimalist in aesthetic, hold layers of meaning in their cut and versatility.
