The LOEWE FOUNDATION has revealed the 30 artists shortlisted for the 2025 edition of the prestigious LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize. Celebrating artistic excellence and innovation in modern craft, the finalists were selected from over 4,600 submissions from 133 countries and regions. The works of these 30 finalists will be displayed at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid from May 30 to June 29, 2025. The exhibition will highlight a remarkable range of mediums, including ceramics, woodwork, textiles, jewelry, and glass, showcasing the global scope and diverse talent in contemporary craft.

ART

The works of the 2025 finalists display a compelling mix of innovation and tradition, often reinterpreting age-old craft techniques in new materials. For instance, basketry techniques are applied to clay, while metal is used in weaving traditionally done with a loom. These works not only celebrate craftsmanship but also engage with the rich legacy of oral traditions, rituals, and cultural knowledge passed down through generations.

This year’s finalists represent 18 countries and regions, spanning continents and cultures. Some of the works offer fresh perspectives on familiar motifs, while others forge new paths, creating forms that speak to the artists’ unique creative voices. From highly detailed metal jewelry to stunning lacquer works, each finalist demonstrates exceptional technical accomplishment and artistic vision, making this edition of the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize one of the most diverse and exciting yet.

In a statement, Sheila Loewe, President of the LOEWE FOUNDATION, expressed her pride in the Prize’s role in supporting extraordinary talent and changing the perception of craft globally. “Over the past decade, the Prize has transformed lives and careers, building a vibrant international community around the celebration of craft,” she said. The LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize continues to provide a platform for artists who are shaping the future of contemporary craft, offering recognition and exposure to those who challenge traditional boundaries while honoring their heritage.

The 2025 Craft Prize finalists will compete for the €50,000 award, with the winner announced on May 29, 2025, at the exhibition’s opening in Madrid. The judging panel includes 13 influential figures from the worlds of design, architecture, and curatorship, including Jonathan Anderson, LOEWE’s Creative Director, and Sheila Loewe. The panel’s task is to evaluate each finalist’s technical mastery, innovation, and artistic contribution to contemporary craft, ensuring that the winner represents the pinnacle of excellence in the field.
