The new collection explores the juxtaposition of classicism and futurism, reflecting on the evolving relationship between artisanal craftsmanship and digital technology, a recurring theme in Maison Margiela’s work, and similarly explored by Gentle Monster. The result is a series of twenty unique eyewear pieces, including eight sunglasses and twelve spectacles, each reinterpreting traditional designs with a distinct cyber-core aesthetic. These pieces promise to challenge and expand our perceptions of what eyewear can represent.

The campaign for this avant-garde collection is captured and directed by Jordan Hemingway, who explores themes of alienation and attraction, echoing the mysterious appeal found at the intersection of the human and the cyborg. Central to the campaign imagery are the MM201 sunglasses, a standout piece from the collection, which also features in Maison Margiela’s Spring-Summer 2025 Avant-Premiere Collection. This particular model draws inspiration from Maison Margiela’s iconic L’Incognitos introduced in 2008, reimagined with a mask-like, frameless metallic silhouette available in silver and green.

Further pushing the envelope, the MM202 and MM203 models introduce narrow, goggle-esque designs and futuristic curves that stretch from lens across temple in striking colors like black, silver, and red. The MM204 and MM205 disrupt traditional oval frames with robotic, squared edges in an array of colors, infusing classic glamour with a touch of the avant-garde. Meanwhile, the MM206, MM207, and MM208 models reinterpret classic shapes with bold, contemporary twists, ensuring there’s a style to challenge every fashion norm.

The collection’s spectacles are equally inventive, featuring frameless designs and super-light structures that combine minimalistic elegance with high-tech elements. Models like the MM216, MM218, and MM220 combine almond-shaped and edged-oval lenses with slender, cable temple tips, presented in both sunglass and spectacle formats to cater to varying style preferences. Other designs include the MM217 and MM219, which showcase frameless, kite-lensed options that further the collection’s exploration of weight and space.
To mark the release, Maison Margiela and Gentle Monster are setting up ephemeral installations in key global locations. These installations, inspired by the collection’s aesthetic, will feature abstract, human-shaped objects amid raw patterns and sheer materials, creating an immersive environment that mirrors the eyewear’s artistic and conceptual depth.
