ASICS has built its reputation on performance-driven footwear, with designs that balance function and aesthetics. Since its founding in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka, the brand has refined its approach to running shoes, developing models that integrate advanced cushioning and stability. The introduction of GEL technology in the 1980s improved ASICS’ approach to shock absorption, strengthening its reputation for performance footwear. Since then, the brand has incorporated this innovation across a range of models designed for both running and daily wear.

Beyond technical performance, ASICS focuses on how its sneakers interact with movement, comfort, and longevity. Each model is designed with precise material choices and structural balance, ensuring durability without sacrificing flexibility. This attention to detail has helped ASICS maintain a strong presence in both athletic and lifestyle footwear.

This guide highlights five ASICS sneakers that are must-haves for 2025, selected for their unique construction, material choices, and refined details.

Gel 1130 ‘Black Pure Silver’

The ASICS Gel 1130 ‘Black Pure Silver’ refines a late 2000s design with a modern edge. The black open-cell mesh upper is reinforced with synthetic leather overlays, creating a layered look while maintaining breathability. Metallic silver accents appear on the tiger stripes, toe wrap, and heel overlay, bringing subtle contrast to the otherwise dark palette.

The midsole is built with lightweight EVA foam and features a GEL insert in the heel for responsive cushioning. Grey textile lining enhances comfort, and the rubber outsole provides reliable traction. Ideal for everyday wear or light activity, the Gel 1130 Black Pure Silver sneaker offers a a mix of practicality and understated style.

Gel Kayano 14 ‘Pink Glow’

With its bright pink mesh upper and silver overlays, the Gel Kayano 14 ‘Pink Glow’ makes a strong visual statement. The side stripes are outlined in black, adding contrast to the bold color scheme. This version stays true to the original Kayano 14, which was the first in the series not designed by Toshikazu Kayano, marking a transition in ASICS’ approach to stability-focused running shoes.

A white EVA midsole incorporates pink-tinted GEL inserts in the forefoot and heel, ensuring shock absorption without sacrificing responsiveness. The black rubber outsole offers durability, while the TRUSSTIC support system reinforces midfoot stability. Designed with a balance of structure and flexibility, this model remains a standout in the Kayano series.

Hidden NY x Gel NYC

ASICS joins forces with Hidden NY for a special edition of the GEL NYC, combining elements from several archival models. The upper references the GEL-NIMBUS 3 from the early 2000s and integrates design details from the GEL-MC PLUS V. The result is a retro-inspired sneaker with white open-cell mesh and synthetic leather overlays in white and metallic silver. Green-trimmed side stripes add contrast, tying into Hidden NY’s signature color scheme.

Branding details set this collaboration apart, with ASICS and Hidden NY logos appearing on the tongue and lateral heel. The tooling borrows from the GEL-CUMULUS 16, featuring a mix of lightweight foams and GEL cushioning in the forefoot and heel. The combination of heritage elements and modern construction makes this a unique addition to the ASICS lineup.

Gel 1130 ‘Clay Grey Pure Silver’

The ASICS Gel 1130 ‘Clay Grey Pure Silver’ keeps the late 2000s aesthetic intact while updating materials for a contemporary fit. A greyscale open-mesh upper ensures breathability, with black and silver synthetic overlays reinforcing the structure. The tiger stripes remain a focal point, standing out against the neutral background.

SNEAKERS

Originally introduced as a stability running shoe, this version of the Gel 1130 is adapted for everyday wear. GEL cushioning in the heel absorbs impact, and the rubber outsole enhances grip. The sockliner is dope-dyed, reducing water usage and carbon emissions during production. With its lightweight feel and balanced cushioning, this sneaker delivers versatility in a subtle colorway.

Gel Kayano 14 ‘White Silver Black’

A crisp update to a classic silhouette, the Gel Kayano 14 ‘White Silver Black’ pairs white open-cell mesh with silver synthetic overlays for a streamlined look. Black accents on the side stripes and inner lining provide subtle contrast without overpowering the design. This model stays true to the technical aspects of the Kayano series, offering the same structural support and stability as its predecessors.

The EVA midsole is fitted with ASICS’ GEL technology for shock absorption, while the TRUSSTIC system strengthens the midfoot. The combination of cushioning and support makes it a solid choice for long wear, whether for casual use or light running.
