Girard-Perregaux returns to Cortina d’Ampezzo for the 12th edition of WinteRace Cortina, reinforcing its long-standing partnership with the prestigious regularity race. Since 2017, the Swiss manufacture has aligned with the event, recognizing its shared focus on precision and technical mastery. To mark the occasion, Girard-Perregaux introduces the Laureato Skeleton WinteRace Edition, a timepiece that reflects the balance of heritage and innovation seen in both watchmaking and classic motorsport.
WATCHES
From March 13 to March 15, Cortina d’Ampezzo sets the stage for WinteRace Cortina, where vintage and modern cars navigate a 460 km course across two days. Drivers rely on their co-pilots and the Roadbook to complete each stage within strict time limits. Precision, rather than speed, determines victory. Recognizing this alignment with its watchmaking philosophy, Girard-Perregaux became a sponsor in 2017 and continues its support for the eighth consecutive year.

This special edition draws inspiration from the duality of classic and contemporary performance, much like the vehicles in the WinteRace. The 42mm black ceramic case preserves the octagonal bezel that has defined the Laureato since its 1975 debut, while the openworked GP01800 movement brings a modern edge. The skeletonized design offers an intricate view of the mainspring, balance wheel, and pallet lever, ensuring a dynamic visual experience.
Gold-plated hands and suspended indexes enhance readability, glowing green in dim conditions. The black PVD-treated mainplate and bridges feature multiple finishing techniques, including bevelling, sandblasting, traits-tirés, and circular satin finishes, underscoring the watch’s craftsmanship. A solid pink gold oscillating weight provides an elegant contrast while optimizing light transmission through the movement.

Drawing parallels to the advanced materials used in motorsport, black ceramic forms the case, bezel, and integrated bracelet. Seven times harder than steel, this material resists scratches while maintaining a lightweight feel. The sintering process, which involves applying intense pressure and heat to ceramic micro-beads, ensures structural integrity while achieving a deep, lasting black finish. Unlike metals that wear over time, ceramic maintains its pristine appearance.
The GP01800 calibre operates with a variable inertia balance, eliminating the need for an index-adjuster. By modifying inertia weights on the balance wheel, watchmakers fine-tune precision while improving shock resistance. The recessed positioning of these weights reduces air turbulence, further refining accuracy.

Founded in 1791, Girard-Perregaux has played a pivotal role in Haute Horlogerie for over 230 years. The Laureato, originally introduced in 1975, stands as one of the first integrated bracelet watches, designed and manufactured entirely in-house. As it approaches its 50th anniversary in 2025, the Laureato continues to evolve while staying true to its original vision.
Over the years, the Laureato has appeared in various case materials, dial colors, and complications. The Laureato Skeleton WinteRace Edition builds on this legacy, offering a contemporary take on openworked design with precision-engineered details.
The Laureato Skeleton WinteRace Edition launches today, March 13, 2025, and will be available through Girard-Perregaux retailers.
