Nike is reissuing the Air Flightposite in a new “Sail” colorway, arriving June 12, 2025 for $250. Known for its seamless molded upper and sleek shroud, the silhouette remains one of Nike Basketball’s most unconventional designs. The return of this model marks 25 years since its original debut and continues Nike’s efforts to reintroduce experimental designs from the late ’90s and early 2000s.
First released in 1999, the Air Flightposite was developed under Nike’s Alpha Project umbrella, a series focused on design-driven performance. Created by designer Eric Avar, the shoe gained popularity through on-court appearances by players like Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan. It stood out for its Foamposite upper, full-length Zoom Air cushioning, and zippered closure system, which helped give it a contained fit during play.
The “Sail” version applies an off-white tone across the sculpted Foamposite shell, creating a contrast with black hits on the neoprene collar, inner sleeve, and outsole. A Metallic Silver mid-foot plate adds sharpness to the profile, while white Swoosh branding finishes the design. The colorway is clean and understated, pulling references from past Foamposite icons, including the “Pearl” Foamposite Pro, without directly replicating it.
Comfort remains central to the Flightposite’s construction. The inner sleeve stretches for a snug, sock-like fit, while the Foamposite material supports impact absorption without adding unnecessary bulk. The carbon-fiber-inspired shank in the midfoot offers added rigidity and stability. Together, these features create a shoe that still feels futuristic by current standards, even two and a half decades after its debut.
The 2025 re-release of the Air Flightposite “Sail” arrives amid a wider return of Foamposite models, many of which are being reintroduced with original tooling and updated materials. While the silhouette was once considered polarizing due to its unconventional look, it has earned renewed attention among collectors and younger fans alike.
Retailing for $250, the Nike Air Flightposite “Sail” will be available via Nike’s website and select retailers on June 12.
