CBS and MTV have revealed the full list of nominations for the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, set to air live from UBS Arena in New York on Sunday, September 7, at 8:00 PM ET. Lady Gaga tops the list with 12 nominations, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Best Album. This marks her third time leading the VMAs nominee list, having done so in 2010 and again in 2020.
Bruno Mars follows closely with 11 nominations. Kendrick Lamar secures 10, while ROSÉ and Sabrina Carpenter receive eight each. Ariana Grande and The Weeknd each land seven nominations, and Billie Eilish earns six. Charli XCX receives five, with Bad Bunny, Ed Sheeran, Jelly Roll, Tate McRae, Miley Cyrus, and Doechii each picking up four.

For the first time, the show adds two new categories: Best Country and Best Pop Artist. The 2025 nominations also include 33 first-time nominees. Among them are Brent Faiyaz, Lainey Wilson, ROLE MODEL, Blake Shelton, and Mac Miller, who receives a posthumous nomination. Gigi Perez, Alex Warren, and sombr each earn multiple nominations in their debut year. Members of BLACKPINK also earn solo nominations, including JENNIE, JISOO, and Jimin.
Fan voting is open now for 19 gender-neutral categories at vote.mtv.com, closing September 5 at 6:00 PM ET. Voting for Best New Artist remains open into the live broadcast. Fans can gain extra votes by commenting on @VMAs Instagram posts using artist-specific hashtags until August 8. Additional votes become available during the “Power Hour,” running daily from August 7 to September 4 between 1:00–2:00 PM ET.
Song of the Year will narrow to six finalists on August 18 at 12:00 PM ET. Voting in that category, along with the others, continues through September 5.
The 2025 show will broadcast on CBS, simulcast on MTV, and stream via Paramount+ in the U.S., with global distribution in over 150 countries. Additional details about performers, special honorees, and presenters will be announced in the lead-up to the event.
Production for the 2025 VMAs includes executive producers Bruce Gillmer, Jesse Ignjatovic, and Barb Bialkowski. The production team also includes Alicia Portugal, Jackie Barba, Wendy Plaut, and Lisa Lauricella.
Following a 25% year-over-year growth in viewership in 2024, the upcoming edition aims to build on last year’s momentum. The 2024 show reached 66.7 million social interactions, making it the most socially active edition in VMAs history.
