Brain Dead and adidas have confirmed the release of their Japan Lo collaboration, scheduled to arrive on August 28, 2025. First seen at a Paris showroom in May, the shoe reinterprets a 1964 silhouette with new textures and visual details. Originally introduced for the Tokyo Olympics, the model has grown into a lifestyle staple since its 2024 reissue. Brain Dead now brings its design language to the pair, introducing fresh elements to a form rooted in historical relevance.

The Brain Dead x adidas Japan Lo arrives in two distinct color palettes. One version uses brown, olive, and yellow, while the other sticks to black, white, and blue. Each version features flame-shaped overlays, made from hairy suede with defined outlines that emphasize their shape. These flames stretch across the side panels, pulling focus without crowding the shoe’s structure. The texture continues through the special hairy laces and heel tab, which give the shoe a layered tactile quality.

A leather collar offers material contrast, separating the upper from the ankle area with a polished finish. This element balances the suede textures without competing for attention. The shoe rests on a thin off-white sole, aligning with the ongoing interest in flat-soled models. This low profile suits both casual wear and street styling, placing the design firmly in the present while acknowledging its roots.

Brain Dead previewed the Japan Lo alongside several other adidas collaborations at the Paris showroom event. These included reworks of the Barricade 13, Taekwondo, and Climacool 2, but the Japan Lo received extra attention for its retro references and unusual textures. While the other teased models have yet to receive official dates, the Japan Lo now leads the pack with a confirmed launch.

This latest effort builds on Brain Dead’s existing work with adidas, which includes versions of the Stan Smith, Forest Hills, and a Bowling Shoe created in collaboration with Dover Street Market. Each project brings a different approach, but the focus on playfulness and material specificity remains consistent.

adidas plans to release the Brain Dead Japan Lo through its webstore and app on August 28. Each pair will retail for $140 USD. As the launch date approaches, additional images and possible campaign materials may follow, but the key design features and color breakdowns are already clear.

With flame motifs, hairy suede, and carefully chosen color blocking, the Brain Dead x adidas Japan Lo uses contrast and repetition to establish rhythm. Every element, from the special laces to the slim outsole, contributes to the shoe’s structure and intent.
