Grace Coddington joins Louis Vuitton this season to extend her devotion to cats through the house’s Travels With series. She has long carried her feline companions into every corner of her creative life, sketching them in countless drawings, referencing them in her fashion career, and travelling with their presence. They appear at runway shows, in her playful illustrations, and even in the stories she tells about her life. “My cats are not just adorable and comforting companions, they are also a constant source of inspiration,” she once explained. For her, they remain constant partners in both daily rituals and artistic creation.
The collaboration builds on her 2019 Catogram project, where Pumpkin and Blanket met Nicolas Ghesquière’s dogs, Achille and Léon. Now she returns with Blondie, Blanket, and Jimi, who embark on a global expedition in the Louis Vuitton Travels With narrative. Their itinerary stretches from Sydney to London, through the Amazon, up to the Great Wall of China, and even into space. Each stop in this imagined voyage appears in a series of embroidered patches, reminiscent of the labels that once charted the journeys of Louis Vuitton’s original trunks.
Alongside this playful story, Coddington proposes her own vision of a traveller’s wardrobe. She designs pieces that carry character while remaining comfortable and practical for movement. Midi dresses feature signature Louis Vuitton prints alongside exclusive motifs of cats and mice. Pyjamas gain a chic reinterpretation, polished enough to rival business wear. Footwear remains grounded in utility, with sandals and tennis shoes providing ease for long trips. She also includes blankets and plaids, ready to comfort during hours on flights or train rides. Materials reflect her preference for softness, with cashmere, silk, cotton, and knitwear anchoring the collection.
Coddington approaches travel not only through clothing but also through packing. She recalls Louis Vuitton’s origins as a box-maker and packer, a craft rooted in organisation and precision. Drawing on this shared history, she designs bags and kits in plum-coloured foldable nylon. The legendary Keepall collapses completely flat when not in use, then unfolds into a functional travel bag. Additional pieces employ the house’s Vintage Canvas, made of linen and cotton, a material that recalls the woven canvas used on trunks from 1900.
The collaboration also includes a trunk, a piece that ties her practice to the house’s legacy. Inspired by the historic Stokowski trunk, her secretary trunk carries the tools of an illustrator. Inside rests a removable easel, drawers for brushes and pencils, and compartments that keep supplies secure. In a personal touch, she creates a space within the trunk for her cats, ensuring their presence remains woven into her idea of a perfect journey.
Louis Vuitton positions this collaboration within Volez, Voguez, Voyagez, continuing its exploration of art de vivre. For Grace Coddington, the project serves as a visual diary, a way to preserve her relationship with her cats while transforming her imagination into objects, clothing, and accessories.
