UNDEFEATED Reworks the Air Jordan 5 in “Moon Fossil”

UNDEFEATED and Jordan Brand are preparing another chapter in their long-running partnership with an Air Jordan 5 “Moon Fossil,” currently expected to release in 2027. The sneaker follows the return of their Air Jordan 4 collaboration in 2025 and brings UNDEFEATED’s military-influenced design language to a different Jordan silhouette.

The collaboration between the two names dates back to 2005, when UNDEFEATED worked with Jordan Brand on a military-inspired Air Jordan 4. That project marked Jordan Brand’s first official collaboration and established a visual direction that has remained closely associated with the partnership. Twenty years later, the collaborators revisited the Air Jordan 4 in 2025 before turning their attention to the Air Jordan 5.

For “Moon Fossil,” UNDEFEATED replaces the Air Jordan 5’s usual leather construction with a tan canvas upper. The aged appearance of the material continues the military references associated with previous UNDEFEATED Jordan releases while giving the AJ5 a lighter neutral base.

Several construction details distinguish the new version. Decorative spiral embroidery appears along the lateral side, while exposed overlock stitching follows the shape of the collar. The upper also features UNDEFEATED’s Five Strikes emblem, embroidered in olive green.

The heel carries another collaborative detail. Nike Air-style branding replaces the usual “Air” text with “UND,” creating a direct reference to UNDEFEATED beneath the Nike mark. Olive thread continues through the branding and connects the sneaker visually to the military colors associated with the partnership.

Jordan Brand’s familiar gray and red tones appear around the tongue. A reflective silver tongue carries a red Jumpman, while black detailing runs vertically through its center. The design also places the Five Strikes mark behind the Jumpman. Translucent lace locks complete the upper.

Underfoot, the sneaker uses a black midsole with the Air Jordan 5’s recognizable shark-tooth detailing. A translucent blue outsole finishes the design, introducing a cooler tone beneath the neutral canvas upper.

Current reports list the official color specification as Moon Fossil, University Red, Fossil and Black. Multiple sources expect the sneaker to release in February 2027, with a reported retail price of $230. The date would place the launch during NBA All-Star Weekend in Phoenix.

Reports also indicate that “Moon Fossil” will form part of a two-colorway release. A second Air Jordan 5 in Light Chocolate, University Red, Cement Grey and Black is currently expected for the same period.
