UNION LA marks its 35th anniversary through a new collaboration with in・stru(men-tal)., the label that Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO designer Mihara Yasuhiro leads. The capsule brings together the design priorities of each partner and translates their shared focus on everyday clothing into a release that emphasizes comfort, silhouette and function.
CAPSULE COLLECTIONS
UNION continues to communicate its distinct culture and approach to mixed styling from its base in Los Angeles. In・stru(men-tal). follows a focused approach to silhouette and comfort. The two labels bring those ideas into the same collection, using natural functional beauty and a West Coast atmosphere to establish its character.
The capsule places everyday use at the center of its design. In・stru(men-tal). contributes its attention to proportion, shape and comfort. UNION introduces the sensibility that it has developed through its connection to Los Angeles and its community.
The collaboration reflects the different perspectives that each partner brings to clothing. Mihara Yasuhiro’s label concentrates on forms that support comfort and daily wear. UNION approaches styling through its own cultural point of view and the combinations it continues to share from Los Angeles.
Natural functional beauty gives the project its foundation. The collection uses that idea to connect practical design with the atmosphere of the West Coast. Its mood comes from the relationship between in・stru(men-tal).’s study of silhouette and UNION’s city and community based sensibility.

UNION LA will begin sales at its Los Angeles store on Friday, August 7. The launch will reach Japan on Saturday, August 8. Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO will offer the collection through selected stores under its direct operation and through its online store. UNION TOKYO and UNION OSAKA will also carry the capsule, together with UNION’s online store in Japan.
The partners will support the launch with a limited quantity ZINE. Teams from each brand conceived its visuals and shot them on location in Los Angeles. The limited prelaunch volume gives readers an early view of the collaboration before the collection arrives at retail.
