Sensoria Dolomites Brings Art and Wellness to the Alpe di Siusi

A stay at the adults-only South Tyrol retreat combines all-inclusive dining, mountain views, local art and a summer programme built around the outdoors.

Set in Siusi allo Sciliar, at the foot of the Alpe di Siusi, Sensoria Dolomites takes a highly considered approach to the mountain hotel experience. The four-star-superior adults-only property brings together design, wellness, food, art and outdoor activity through an all-inclusive concept that feels polished without becoming formal.

HOTELS

We visited Sensoria Dolomites during a hiking trip, which proved to be one of the best ways to experience the hotel. Its summer programme is especially strong, with guided hikes, e-bike tours and yoga included in the stay, making the surrounding landscape part of the daily rhythm rather than something separate from the hotel itself.

Location

Sensoria Dolomites sits just a few minutes from the cable-car station that leads to the Alpe di Siusi, one of the defining natural areas of South Tyrol.

The setting gives guests direct access to a network of hiking routes, mountain paths and cycling options during summer, while winter brings skiing and cross-country trails. The hotel’s location works particularly well for guests who want to be active without dealing with complicated transfers or planning.

During our stay, we were lucky to have owner Lea Oberhofer as our hiking guide for the day. Together, we explored the Alpe di Siusi, and her knowledge of the area added a completely different dimension to the experience. She shared details about the landscape, routes and local life along the way, making the hike feel personal and deeply connected to the place.

Design and Architecture

The interiors at Sensoria Dolomites are restrained and atmospheric, with a strong focus on materials, scent and art.

Wooden slats appear throughout the hotel, introducing a visual rhythm inspired by Japanese architecture. The overall palette remains subdued, allowing natural materials and carefully selected details to define the spaces.

Art plays an equally important role. Works by South Tyrolean artists appear throughout the property, bringing sculpture and painting into the everyday experience of the hotel.

Rooms

The rooms continue the same visual language, combining warm timber, soft tones and minimal detailing.

The atmosphere feels calm without becoming sparse. Each room category has a distinct fragrance, reinforcing the hotel’s idea that wellbeing begins before guests ever enter the spa.

The restrained interiors also make sense after a day outdoors. There is enough visual detail to feel considered, while the spaces remain restful and uncluttered.

Dining

Sensoria operates on an all-day-inclusive concept, which gives the stay an easy rhythm.

Breakfast begins with an extensive buffet focused on regional ingredients and a mix of sweet and savoury options. In the afternoon, guests return for homemade snacks, while dinner develops into a six-course menu.

The cuisine draws from South Tyrol’s position between Alpine and Mediterranean food traditions. Ingredients, provenance and quality remain central to the experience, while themed evenings, including Tyrolean dinners and gala menus, introduce variety throughout the week.

The inclusive format also removes the constant calculation that can sometimes interrupt a hotel stay. Drinks, meals and snacks become part of the overall experience rather than separate decisions throughout the day.

Spa

The wellness area is one of Sensoria Dolomites’ strongest spaces. The bathhouse includes a heated indoor pool that continues outdoors, keeping the Schlern mountain in view. A Finnish sauna faces the forest and mountains, joined by a steam bath, bio sauna, fitness room and three relaxation areas.

Treatments range from aromatherapy to Meridian massage, while the broader programme includes yoga and other wellbeing activities.

We tried the Immune Revive Support treatment, which combines guided breathing inhalation with a full-body treatment using warm de-stress muscle gel, an Ayurvedic head massage, foot reflexology and a vitalising abdominal massage. It worked especially well as preparation for a full day of activities, helping the body feel relaxed, refreshed and ready to move.

Activities

The summer activity programme is a major reason to stay at Sensoria Dolomites. Guided hikes and e-bike tours are included, while the Alpe di Siusi offers extensive terrain for independent exploration. The area combines open plateaus, forest routes and dramatic mountain views, giving guests plenty of options regardless of experience level.

Our hike with Lea became one of the highlights of the visit. Her experience and knowledge of the region made it feel far more personal than a standard guided excursion, and it also showed how closely the hotel itself is tied to its surroundings.

Art and Local Culture

Sensoria Dolomites goes beyond displaying art inside the hotel. The property has a strong focus on local artistic practice and has developed an art residency programme, creating a deeper connection between guests and the region’s creative community.

During our stay, the hotel also organized a studio visit with local artist Caroline Comploi, whose studio is located in Val Gardena. Seeing the work in the context where it is made added another layer to the cultural side of the stay and gave us a closer look at the creative life of the area.

This approach feels especially relevant because it avoids treating art as decoration. Instead, Sensoria creates opportunities for direct exchange with artists and their work.

Overall Experience

Our stay was shaped by hiking, long spa sessions, dinners, conversations and a studio visit that brought us closer to the local creative scene. That combination gives Sensoria Dolomites a distinct identity.

It is a mountain retreat, but one built around more than scenery. The strongest moments come from the connections it creates between place, people, culture and the simple pleasure of having time to experience all of them.
