Netflix‘s Heartstopper Forever brings Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring back for one final chapter. The feature film premieres July 17 and closes Alice Oseman’s screen story with Kit Connor and Joe Locke returning as the couple who first drew viewers into Heartstopper in 2022. The new trailer places Nick and Charlie at a turning point as school, university plans and first love all press into the same summer.

In her interview with Tudum, Oseman describes Heartstopper Forever as an emotional farewell for the story. The film honors what Heartstopper means to viewers, gives fans a final goodbye with the characters and offers hints about their future lives. Her comments frame the finale as a look at what first love can become with time.
The creator places Nick and Charlie at a fragile stage. At 18 and 17, they face the shift from adolescence toward adulthood. Many teenage relationships struggle during that period, and Heartstopper Forever asks whether their love can last past that change. The story links love with memory, pain, changing seasons, endings, beginnings and the small magic of everyday life.
The finale changes the format from series to feature film. Oseman understands why fans may feel unsure about that decision, since the runtime runs shorter than a full season. After she saw the wider vision, the film format gave the team a chance to create a more atmospheric conclusion. The single-story structure removes the need for episode endings and repeated twists, giving the final chapter space for character and emotion.
The story picks up after the Season 3 finale, where Nick, Charlie and many of their friends reached new stages in their relationships. Oseman says Nick feels unsure of who he is apart from Charlie, while Charlie worries about getting left behind. Both characters need to work through their bond and their individual growth. Their friends also face questions about love, friendship and the future.
Oseman’s upcoming sixth and final Heartstopper graphic novel informs the film. She says the book lets her explore everything she still wanted to address with these characters. Oseman has also shared Volume 6 comics free to read online and says the film will include some changes from the source material.

Heartstopper Forever also adds Anna Maxwell Martin and Derek Jacobi to the cast.
Oseman writes the finale and executive produces alongside Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Euros Lyn, Locke and Connor. See-Saw Films produces. Connor and Locke also serve as executive producers for the first time. Connor calls the farewell bittersweet, while Locke says the show has meant a great deal in his life.
