Netflix has officially renewed The Beast in Me for a second season, bringing Claire Danes back as writer Aggie Wiggs following the success of the psychological thriller’s debut. The series earned 21 Emmy nominations for its first season, which followed Aggie’s increasingly dangerous involvement with her billionaire neighbour, Nile Jarvis, played by Matthew Rhys.

The renewal also marks the beginning of a new exclusive creative partnership between Netflix and writer Howard Gordon, who will serve as co-showrunner alongside Daniel Pearle. Gordon previously helped develop the first season and will continue overseeing the story as the series enters its next chapter.
Season 2 expands Aggie’s family story with two major additions. Emmy winner John Goodman, whose credits include The Righteous Gemstones, Barton Fink and The Big Lebowski, will portray Aggie’s father, Jack. Emmy nominee Lili Taylor, known for Mystic Pizza, Say Anything… and The Conjuring, will play her stepmother, Fiona.
The casting introduces a new dimension to Aggie’s personal life following her complicated relationship with Nile Jarvis in the first season. Netflix has yet to reveal further plot details, leaving questions about how the new characters will influence the story.

Gordon explains that the creative team wanted to find a compelling reason to continue the series before pursuing another season. “We always told ourselves we’d only do a second season of The Beast in Me if we found a story that was worthy of the first – and I’m thrilled to say we found it,” Gordon says. He also credits Netflix and 20th Television for supporting the return, acknowledging the audience response that helped secure another season.
The first season made an immediate impact on Netflix, debuting at number one on the platform’s Global Top 10 television chart. The thriller entered the Top 10 in 88 countries and accumulated 43 million views within seven weeks, establishing a substantial international audience.
The series also received significant recognition during the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards. Danes earned a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series, while Rhys won Outstanding Lead Actor in the same category.

The victory contributed to a historic evening for the three-time Emmy-winning actor. Composers Sean Callery and Sara Barone also received a Creative Arts Emmy for their original dramatic score.
Netflix’s head of Scripted Series, Jinny Howe, welcomed the renewal and praised the performances and creative team behind the first season. She also confirmed the company’s enthusiasm for Gordon’s new partnership with the streaming platform.
The second season reunites several members of the original production team. Executive producers include Danes, Gordon, Pearle, Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Gabe Rotter, Conan O’Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross and Jodie Foster.
Although Netflix has confirmed the principal returning star and two new cast members, the platform has yet to announce a premiere date or further details about the upcoming episodes. For now, viewers can revisit the complete first season of The Beast in Me, currently streaming on Netflix.
