Aisling Camps has become a personal highlight of New York Fashion Week for me, and someone I now anticipate each season. This time, an early-morning show in a downtown gallery kicked off my NYFW schedule, and it was the right way to begin.

What sets Aisling apart is her command of contemporary design rooted in genuine function. Her engineering background shows in every seam, every proportion – nothing is decorative for decoration’s sake. She creates pieces that are considered and deliberate, yet they move with the currency of now, refusing to feel academic or retrospective.
But it is her approach to knitwear that demands attention. Aisling works with knit like few designers in New York, making intricate, sculptural pieces feel effortless. The control is immense; the effect is weightless.
Collection: A Conversation
For SS27, Aisling returns to a foundational thread: her Trinidadian youth, spent on beaches that taught her the meaning of freedom, sensuality, and the unforced ease of island life. That specificity matters. It grounds what could otherwise drift into abstraction.
The collection unfolds as a conversation between Aisling and her earlier self. Signature silhouettes return, now traced with thick, contrasting threads that mark their seams like handwriting. Familiar ideas shift, loosen, and evolve. Single garments appear in as many as three iterations, each revealing different possibilities for wearing and styling, their progression visible across the show.
The vision connects her roots, her precision as an engineer, and her growth as an artist. It does not abandon where it began. Instead, it expands patiently, line upon line, until individual gestures become inseparable from the whole. The fabric of her future rests on those foundational threads of her past.
