There must be a reason vinyl is around for more than a century, the 1st phonograph record or more popularly called vinyl record was invented in 1888. and produced only a year later. By the end of 19th century mass production of vinyl records was already established. To promote a vinyl store in Canada, the talented creatives from Vancouver based Spring Agency have created the "Digital Will Never Be Vinyl" campaign. They have taken four legendary album covers, enlarged (pixelized) the thumbnails used for album covers on our phones and mp3 players into a size of a regular vinyl record cover.
The project is work of creative director Rob Schlyecher, realized with art direction by Jeremy Grice and copywriter Ron Schlyecher.
The records they have chosen have shaped today's music scene and are more than easy to recognize. If right, the campaign features Michael Jackson's Thriller, Nirvana's Nevermind, Legend The Best Of Bob Marley and The Wailers, and Abbey Road by The Beatles.
Creatives at Spring Agency have worked on numerous print and branding campaigns: Spring is the third wave advertising agency created on the first day of Spring 2006 for a post-traditional-media world. We were built to thrive in an environment where communication keeps unfolding into new forms. We are the weapon that gets our clients to where they want to be. Our mission statement is GROW. It's for our clients, our people, and our business.
A cassette tape replaced vinyl during the 80s, while in the early 90s domination of the compact disc begun, which nowadays is simply dying out. The proof might be the shut down of numerous music stores, while in every town a vinyl store is still around. Many music lovers still can't give up on the quality of sound reproduced by a vinyl record.
What are your thoughts, will vinyl stay around for another century?
