One of the standouts of the collection is definitely the beautifully crafted Air Jordan 6 Retro ‘UNC Home’, getting the Carolina Blue treatment in 2022. The inspiration comes from MJ’s alma mater, the University of North Carolina. The shoes come in a university blue, white and black colorway, featuring a classic nubuck upper, with university blue accents. The release is announced for this March, along with the other Jordan Brand retro releases scheduled for 2022, including the Air Jordan 5 Retro ‘Racer Blue’, and the iconic Air Jordan 12 Retro ‘Playoff’. These fresh takes on the classic silhouettes give a wearer a new relationship with the brand and create new classic colorways along the way.

Through intentional release timing and an obsessive eye for detail, Jordan Brand keeps honoring its legacy namesake, connecting his competitive spirit, dominance and excellence with a new generation of fans. – says Nike’s press release for the Spring 2022 retros.

Air Jordan 6 Retro ‘UNC Home’ Heritage

The Air Jordan 6 is remembered for being the shoe Michael wore when he won his first NBA title. First introduced during the 1990-91 NBA season, the Air Jordan 6, put MJs mid-air elegance on full display. In the face of a cool adversity from their long-standing Detroit rivals, the Bulls stayed strong to advance to The Finals for the first time ever. Michael Jordan claimed his first championship title while wearing a pair of Air Jordan Vls, and was named Finals MVP for the first time.

Designed by the legendary Tinker Hatfield, the sneaker was released in five original colorways that first year, ranging from two distinct Chicago Bulls styles. Focused on improving the Air Jordan V, Hatfield even let MJ himself to participate in the creative process. The design of the AJ VI silhouette was famously inspired by MJ’s Porsche 911. It’s very essence conveyed speed and class, laden with touches like a neoprene sleeve, a translucent rubber sole and visible air. As if to validate these design decisions, the AJ VI could be found on the feet of several of pop culture’s iconic figures during its debut year. – from Nike. We’ve seen the Air Jordan 6 push through a championship run to having its own series of retros 32 years later.

Air Jordan 6 Retro ‘UNC Home’ Design

Inspired by Michael Jordan’s alma mater, University of North Carolina, this new colorway of the Air Jordan 6 gets its University Blue update. Featuring a blue nubuck on the base of the upper, it’s offset by contrasting white leather overlays as well as black accents placed throughout. It has the woven jock tags on the heels, a print/pattern on the tongues, and white rubber outsoles with icy blue translucent detailing.
