A little over a month ago, it was announced that Riccardo Tisci is leaving the British fashion house Burberry, and that he will be replaced as creative director by Daniel Lee, the former creative director of Bottega Veneta. Tisci did not wait long to reveal to us what he will be doing after this engagement, so yesterday he published a photo of the first dress he created for his own brand. It was worn by Michaela Coel at the London premiere of the new film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, in which she plays the warrior Aneka alongside a number of great co-stars including Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o and Angela Bassett. The dress, was a collaboration between Tisci, Coel and her mother, who sewed her clothes from a young age. It consists of a silk bodice over which layers of Chantilly lace are strung. Tisci also designed the socks and shoes Coel wore last night, marking it the first time he has designed something under his own name in 17 years.
The first time I met Michaela, I immediately understood that she represents and expresses everything a woman means to me – freedom, beauty, a sense of adventure. So today, 17 years after I started my first label, Riccardo Tisci, Michaela and I decided to create a look that would celebrate our creativity and friendship, for the London premiere of her new film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. – Riccardo Tisci
