Fashion house Miu Miu unveiled its fourth limited edition Miu Miu Upcycled 2024 collection, featuring the innovative Denim and Patch bags. This launch is part of the brand’s ongoing commitment to sustainable fashion and is accompanied by a special capsule collection for Chinese New Year, which includes polo shirts, cardigans, cashmere slips, and the iconic Wander and Arcadie bags. The Miu Miu Upcycled initiative, introduced in 2020, revolves around the concept of vintage clothing and promotes circular design practices. It aims to celebrate the stories of garments and their previous owners.
The 2024 collection features upcycled jeans, specifically chosen for their unique characteristics. These pre-2000 jeans, sourced from global denim specialists, are selected for their color, weight, and distinctive fading qualities. Denim is renowned for its durability and prized patina. The collection’s design process involves preserving outer seams before deconstructing and refashioning the material, a meticulous hand-done technique aimed at maximizing fabric reuse. The result is a refreshed take on classic wardrobe staples like wide-legged jeans, trucker jackets, bra tops, shorts, baseball caps, and hair bands, as well as accessories, all reflecting the concept of circularity.
The collection also includes flower embroideries inspired by 1950s haute couture, first introduced in the Spring Summer 2022 runway show. These hand-sewn embellishments, now reimagined in black, are crafted using silk chiffon petals, facetted beads, and black crystals set in antique metal. Each garment is finished with a leather Miu Miu Upcycled logo label and an internal white canvas tag, adding a signature touch to the pieces.
For the first time, the Miu Miu Upcycled project expands to include bags. The Patch bag collection is creatively made from leather remnants of past Miu Miu designs, representing a nod to tradition while reimagining the existent in a contemporary context.
Since its inception, the Miu Miu Upcycled project has showcased unique, limited collections, including one-off dresses made from non-designer vintage finds, collaborations with Levi’s around iconic 1980s and ‘90s pieces, and leather jackets featured in the Fall/Winter 2022 Paris runway show.
In line with its commitment to transparency and customer-centric practices, Miu Miu has partnered with the Aura Blockchain Consortium. Each item in the 2024 Miu Miu Upcycled Collection will come with Aura Blockchain verification, ensuring authenticity and traceability.
Fashion photographer Jet Swan captured the campaign featuring actress Ever Anderson and model Huijia Chen. In charge of creative direction was Edward Quarmby, with styling from Lotta Volkova.
