The Hui FW 24/25 collection, curated by Chinese fashion designer Hui Zhou Zhao, epitomizes a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, reflecting the serene strength of ancient culture juxtaposed with the invigorating energy of contemporary life. With a profound love for Italy and a longstanding presence at Milan Fashion Week, Zhao infuses each piece with a reinterpretation of ethnic Chinese traditions, intertwining them with the cosmopolitan essence of modern Chinese women. Embracing the evolving image of today’s Chinese women, who effortlessly navigate Western education, international business, and global travel, the collection embodies a fusion of cultural heritage and cutting-edge technology.
At the heart of the collection lies the symbolism of the Panda bear, reimagined through artificial intelligence and adorning camel pullovers as patches, symbolizing radical transformation. Concurrently, the intricate hairstyles showcased on invitations and 3D projections during the fashion show pay homage to the traditional headwear of Hmong women from the Long Horn tribe of the Miao people. These meticulously crafted hats, comprising hair passed down through generations, evoke the rich tapestry of Miao tradition, where garments serve as living history books. Translating tribal motifs into contemporary chic, the collection features jacquard sequined skirts in shades of ebony, camel, and black, alongside mini skirts reflecting Miao tradition’s five rivers, rendered in vibrant hues.
From cashmere vest coats adorned with ancestral patterns to iridescent sequins juxtaposed with knitted stitches, each garment exudes a seamless fusion of texture, color, and cultural symbolism. Jacquard textures boasting floral and geometric motifs coexist with color block printed chiffon, while mohair volume shirts layer atop scuba effect jersey, embodying a nuanced juxtaposition of materials and design elements. Accessories further amplify the East-meets-West narrative, with delicate mules adorned in sequins intermingling with sturdy cold-weather boots, and scarves featuring floral embroidery in 3D thread, adding depth and dimension to the ensemble.
