With his 10-year anniversary approaching in September, the designer steps into this season with a sharper sense of what defines his work. He brings back the codes that first drew him to fashion, American sportswear, classic denim, and subtle Western touches, yet filters them through a more lived-in, less polished perspective.
In his showroom, Maxwell described the new offering as a continuation of recent seasons, where he’s stepped back from literal tributes to American fashion icons. While Ralph Lauren and Halston remain reference points, their influence now runs beneath the surface rather than sitting front and center. Maxwell’s latest pieces carry that same energy, but with less insistence. His vision feels casual, almost relaxed, though the execution remains exact.
Sport-inflected shapes and everyday proportions define the collection. Oversized poplin shirts appear with matching micro shorts, trenches stretch into a jumpsuit silhouette cut from twill, and new twisted denim skirts arrive paired with one-of-a-kind cowhide jackets.
Maxwell emphasizes the idea of “real clothing.” He asks what the Brandon Maxwell woman looks like on the street, then answers with pieces that speak to day-to-day wear without giving up identity. One look features an ultra-cool leather jacket paired with long shorts, both cinched with grommet-bound waistbands. Another, a Mackintosh-style jacket sealed at the collar only, brings function into focus while still feeling considered. Even the eveningwear leans into that same idea, opting for clean lines and unfussy cuts that carry presence without excess.
He shifts his attention away from volume and spectacle. Gone are the grand silhouettes and sweeping gowns. In their place, Maxwell presents slim dresses with delicate straps, sharp necklines, and a sense of poise drawn from subtraction rather than build-up.
Fabric choice drives much of this collection. Cowhide jackets feel personal, each piece unique by design. A denim skirt rethinks familiar material with a sculptural line.
