The Air Jordan 40 Blue Suede is scheduled to launch on August 20, 2025, priced at $205. Designed with performance in mind, this release introduces a new level of comfort and innovation for basketball players and sneaker fans. Dressed in a Light Armory Blue and Anthracite colorway, the shoe reimagines court-ready design through a fresh take on materials and cushioning. The combination of premium suede, responsive cushioning, and advanced lockdown support makes this one of the most technically focused models in the Jordan line to date.
Material Direction and Colorway
Unlike the synthetic-heavy construction seen in many modern performance sneakers, the Jordan 40 Blue Suede introduces natural materials to the equation. The suede has a slightly uneven finish that gives the upper tonal variation depending on the angle and light conditions. Anthracite overlays offer contrast and depth without overpowering the primary blue palette.
The Blue Suede 40s colorway focuses on texture and structure, using a muted palette to emphasize the form of the shoe and the layered elements of its build. A Nike logo appears on the heel, while the sculpted sole and streamlined shape give the model visual continuity from past Jordan designs without directly repeating any of them.

Design and Cushioning System
The core performance advancement in the AJ 40 lies in its midsole platform. This is the first Jordan model to use both full-length ZoomX foam and a full-length Zoom Strobel unit in the same configuration. The two technologies serve distinct functions: ZoomX provides high energy return and soft underfoot compression, while Zoom Strobel delivers a stable ride and improved court feel. Together, they create a layered system that addresses the need for propulsion, control, and long-wear comfort.
ZoomX was introduced in Nike’s running division and adapted here to meet the needs of basketball athletes who accelerate, land, and shift direction constantly. The addition of the Zoom Strobel, placed directly under the insole, allows the shoe to react to foot pressure with immediate bounceback while staying close to the floor for balance.
This setup accommodates vertical explosiveness and sustained pace, particularly useful for players who rely on change-of-direction speed and lift. The foam compound is shaped to follow the foot’s natural movement, absorbing impact through the heel and transferring energy through the forefoot during takeoff.

Containment and Lockdown
Lockdown and lateral containment are managed through six internal webbing straps. These straps connect from the base of the foot to the upper eyelets, tightening as the laces are secured. This system allows the shoe to hold the foot in place during quick cuts, slides, and directional shifts, reducing unwanted movement inside the shoe.
The upper itself consists of layered suede and mesh. The washed Light Armory Blue suede covers most of the surface, with mesh underlays positioned for breathability and weight control. Black detailing outlines the collar, tongue, and laces. The tongue features an embroidered Jumpman logo, and the padded collar supports ankle stability without adding stiffness. The ankle area remains flexible and mobile, designed to complement natural joint motion during play.

Traction Design
The outsole uses a newly designed 40-degree herringbone traction pattern. Traditional herringbone is known for its grip and reliability, but this variation introduces a shift in angle that improves responsiveness during diagonal and lateral steps. It also increases bite during step-backs, pull-ups, and fast breaks. Rubber compounds have been selected for both grip and abrasion resistance, allowing for indoor and outdoor use.
The outsole shape includes slight curvature along the midfoot and forefoot zones. This helps maintain contact with the floor during low-footed movements, while the thicker heel allows for smoother landings and controlled stops.

Jordan 40 Series
The Air Jordan 40 launched in July 2025 with the release of ‘The Classic,’ a black, white, and Vast Grey version that introduced the silhouette to the market. That edition focused on core performance features and served as the foundation for future variations. It set the standard for the dual-layer cushioning, internal lacing structure, and 40-degree traction platform that would define the line.
Following ‘The Classic,’ Jordan Brand confirmed two additional editions: ‘Blue Suede,’ and ‘Light Arctic Pink’ also called Dusty Rose – scheduled for September 20. The ‘Light Arctic Pink’ features pale pink suede and anthracite details.
