TELFAR’s Plastic Bag Drop Is Pure NYC Energy

TELFAR returns to the sidewalk with a forever spin on the city’s most famous disposable silhouette.

New York retired the crinkly bodega bag in 2020. TELFAR took the cue and now brings it back on its own terms: permanent, wearable, and built for the chaos of a day that starts at the deli and ends who-knows-where. The TELFAR Plastic Bag lands this Friday, August 15, online, with an in-store drop at the brand’s New York flagship, 408 Broadway, next week.

BAGS

This bag reads instantly as NYC, think corner-store nostalgia recoded for real life. TELFAR keeps the wink and adds function: a double-lined body with ruched elastic handles, tonal seams, and a roomy interior that doesn’t collapse when you actually use it. Inside, smart storage keeps the carry clean, two deep side pockets sized for water bottles, a zip pocket, a slit pocket, and a hidden stash pocket for whatever the city throws your way.

TELFAR offers two sizes. The regular holds a 13″ laptop plus daily gear and retails for $148. The jumbo runs carry-on large at $195. Both arrive in 11 TELFAR New York prints, each one a little love letter to street life: takeout runs, late-night rides, park days, gallery hops. Waterproof and attitude-proof, it’s the bag you put other bags in, or the bag you put inside another bag, because redundancy is a NYC survival skill.

The point here isn’t nostalgia; it’s utility with a grin. TELFAR’s Plastic Bag doesn’t lecture about lifestyle. It shows up for it. Office to gym to dinner? It carries. Farmer’s market or after-hours? It carries. The silhouette signals city shorthand, thank you for shopping, while the build turns that joke into gear you can beat up daily. You get the joke and you get to keep the bag.

Context matters. TELFAR stepped sideways from the industry just as the city moved on from single-use plastic. The brand’s answer lands with classic TELFAR energy: take a piece of mass culture, flip it, and serve it back with sharper lines and better thinking. A staple becomes a statement you can actually live with. The codes feel familiar, lightweight shine, easy handle drop, a smile you’ve seen a million times on a million corners, now backed by construction that respects the pace of the five boroughs.

Styling it is easy because the shape does the work. The regular tucks under an arm without fighting a coat. The jumbo hangs like a soft rectangle and looks strongest when it’s full, groceries, proofs, a change of shoes, a book you swear you’ll finish on the train. The handles give just enough stretch to sit on a shoulder without digging. The material wipes down fast, and the pockets keep keys from playing hide-and-seek in the bottom.

As always, TELFAR keeps price logic in the frame. Under $200 for a carry-on-scale bag with real features lands squarely in the brand’s sweet spot: accessible, considered, and ready to move. The prints do the talking; the silhouette keeps the pace. If you’ve ever tried to juggle a coffee, a phone, and a paper bag in a crosswalk, you already know why this exists.

Two sizes, 11 prints, pockets where you need them, and that unmistakable sidewalk smile. The old bag walked so this one could run errands. Forever.
