Detroit artist introduces a canvas-driven version of the Lightblaze POD sneaker

Adidas has revealed a multi-season collaboration with Detroit-based artist Tyrrell Winston, beginning with a reinterpretation of the Lightblaze POD sneaker. The partnership brings Winston’s artistic language into sportswear, where footwear operates as a surface for creative expression. The project introduces a design that links everyday wear with the evolving character of material and surface.

The debut release presents the Lightblaze POD through Winston’s artistic perspective. adidas originally introduced the model at the end of 2025. For Spring Summer 2026, Winston revisits the silhouette and develops a version finished in a Wonder Alumina and White Overpaint colorway. The project integrates canvas and painted surfaces, bringing techniques associated with studio practice into the construction of a performance-rooted sneaker.

Winston built his practice through the transformation of discarded objects. His work often reconfigures items recovered from sports environments, including tennis balls and equipment fragments. Through the adidas collaboration, this method enters footwear design. The Lightblaze POD uses canvas and painted layers that echo the visual language of Winston’s artworks. The sneaker operates as a surface that records wear and time, allowing its appearance to change with use.

The design encourages personal interpretation from the wearer. adidas and Winston describe the shoe as a blank canvas, where the material records daily activity. The painted surfaces develop marks and variations as the sneaker ages. Each pair therefore acquires its own character through repeated use. The concept draws from Winston’s interest in objects that accumulate traces of human interaction.

The campaign introduces Tyrrell Winston together with his daughter, Helaena Winston. Their presence connects the project to the artist’s personal life and creative history. The campaign imagery frames the collaboration through the relationship between generations, linking Winston’s artistic practice with the idea of renewal and continuation.

Winston addressed the collaboration “Taking on this project with adidas allowed me the creative freedom to put my own stamp on a signature sportswear canvas,” he said. Winston explained that his work often begins with sport objects that he reinterprets through artistic processes. He also referenced the cities that shaped his visual language, including California, New York, and Detroit. These locations informed the aesthetic direction behind the sneaker. Winston also emphasized that the shoe should feel comfortable in daily wear and improve through continued use.

The Lightblaze POD draws from adidas Running’s Adizero franchise. The silhouette translates performance technology into a lifestyle sneaker intended for extended wear. The model uses sculpted Super Critical Foam Lightstrike POD units that provide lightweight cushioning. This structure builds on the Lightblaze design adidas introduced through its Sportswear line during the previous year.

The adidas x Tyrrell Winston Lightblaze POD released in limited quantities on March 10. Adidas offers the sneaker through select retail partners and the adidas CONFIRMED app. The shoe retails for $180 and appears in sizes ranging from UK 3.5 to 13.5.
