Diesel Designs a Smart Ring That Looks Like Jewelry

Created with Ultrahuman, the smart ring pairs biometric tracking with Diesel’s industrial design language.

Diesel is stepping back into wearable technology with a collaboration that places design on equal footing with data. Partnering with Ultrahuman, the brand introduces the Diesel Ultrahuman Ring, a smart device conceived to deliver continuous health insights while functioning as a deliberate piece of jewelry rather than a conventional gadget.

TECH

Developed under the creative direction of Glenn Martens, the ring translates Diesel’s industrial design codes into a compact, wearable format. Instead of leaning toward minimal neutrality, the object carries weight, texture, and intent. It positions wearable tech as something to be worn visibly and confidently, aligned with fashion culture rather than hidden behind utility.

At its core, the Diesel Ultrahuman Ring runs on Ultrahuman’s established smart-ring platform. It tracks sleep quality, steps, calories burned, heart rate, recovery, and stress levels on a continuous basis. The system also monitors caffeine intake, offering recommended cut-off times, and includes ovulation cycle tracking. These insights are designed to help users understand daily physical patterns and long-term wellbeing without requiring constant interaction with a screen.

The ring is built for uninterrupted wear, day and night. Its lightweight form supports overnight tracking, while battery life is rated between four and six days. Automatic syncing ensures data updates without manual input, and built-in privacy protections are included as standard. Importantly, the system operates without a subscription model, positioning the device as a one-time investment rather than an ongoing service.

Visually, the ring arrives in two finishes: a polished silver and a distressed black. Both versions feature Diesel’s Double D logo, reinforcing the object’s identity as a fashion piece rather than a neutral health tool. Each ring is paired with a custom charging dock finished in Diesel red, accompanied by a USB-C cable packaged in the brand’s red-and-white graphic language. The presentation treats the device as an accessory, not an add-on.

This collaboration marks a return to wearable technology for Diesel, following its Diesel On Axial smartwatch released in 2019. The new project feels more focused, moving away from screen-based wearables toward something quieter and more integrated into daily life. By choosing a ring format, Diesel and Ultrahuman position biometric tracking as an ambient layer rather than a dominant presence.

The collaboration also reflects a wider shift in how fashion brands engage with technology. Instead of treating tech as novelty, the Diesel Ultrahuman Ring approaches performance data as part of personal routine and self-awareness, framed through material, finish, and form. It sits comfortably alongside jewelry, watches, and other personal objects, without signaling overt functionality.

Available now through Diesel, Ultrahuman, and selected retail partners, the Diesel Ultrahuman Ring is priced at £469 GBP / €559 EUR. The release reinforces Diesel’s interest in operating beyond apparel, using technology as another surface for design, culture, and identity to intersect on the body.
