Nike Hybrid Combines Running Speed With Training Stability

Nike introduces Hybrid Fly and Hybrid RN for racing and everyday hybrid training

Nike introduces Nike Hybrid, a new training footwear system for athletes who combine running, lifting and demanding exercise stations during training and competition. Nike developed the system from the ground up around the specific needs of hybrid athletes. It includes two shoes: Nike Hybrid Fly for race day and Nike Hybrid RN for regular training. Nike created each model to deliver the speed, stability and traction that athletes require during frequent exercise changes.

Hybrid racing continues to grow as athletes alternate runs with sled pushes, sled pulls, lunges, rows and ski erg sessions. The format requires sustained speed and efficiency throughout training and competition. Traditional footwear often forces athletes to choose a responsive running shoe or a stable training shoe. Nike created the Hybrid system to address that problem through separate racing and training models.

Nike based the system on feedback from elite hybrid athlete Dylan Scott and everyday athletes. The company tested and refined the shoes against the demands of hybrid training and racing. Nike also applied its Air, ZoomX and ReactX foam platforms, along with carbon fiber Flyplate technology, to support running pace, lifting stability and grip during exercise stations.

Nike Hybrid Fly for competition

The Nike Hybrid Fly combines ZoomX foam, a full-length carbon Flyplate and two Air Zoom units in the forefoot. These elements help athletes retain speed during running sections, where many competitors gain their greatest advantage.

A wider base gives athletes greater stability and traction during station work. The structure also reduces the small foot corrections that can cost time when athletes switch from running to strength exercises. Race lockdown laces secure the foot, while four traction zones use sticky rubber and sidewall wraps to increase grip on varied surfaces.

Nike uses lightweight engineered mesh for the upper and adds zoned haptic lines for structure and durability. These features give the Hybrid Fly the running response, secure footing and grip that Scott wanted from a hybrid racing shoe. Scott trusted the model during competition after previous footwear gave him only two of those three qualities at once.

Nike Hybrid RN for daily training

The Nike Hybrid RN combines ReactX foam with an Air Zoom unit in the forefoot. The cushioning creates a smooth and responsive ride during runs while the wider structure supports lifts and other strength exercises.

An extended outsole gives athletes a stable platform. X-shaped overlays secure the foot when athletes change exercises, and a dual-rubber outsole supplies traction on multiple surfaces. Engineered mesh supports the foot and helps athletes stay comfortable through complete training sessions.

Hybrid athlete Lauren Weeks explains that hybrid training places different demands on footwear than road running. Athletes repeatedly alternate running and strength exercises, so a shoe that handles each task helps them concentrate on their session or race.

The Hybrid Fly and Hybrid RN form the first stage of Nike Hybrid, an evolving system for different training and competition needs. Nike gives racers a model that prioritizes speed, grip and secure footing, while the training shoe supports repeated running and lifting sessions.

Nike will launch the Hybrid RN in China on September 24. The company will introduce the shoe globally on October 8 through nike.com and select retailers. Nike will launch the Hybrid Fly globally in April 2027.
