Nike introduces the Ja 4 NY vs. NY, a new colorway of Ja Morant‘s fourth signature basketball shoe. The release follows the debut “Nightmare” colorway, which arrives on August 13, with “NY vs. NY” scheduled two days later on August 15. The latest edition links the new Ja 4 silhouette with New York’s streetball scene and the young players competing to establish their names in the city’s annual tournament.

The Ja 4 introduces a new cushioning setup built around Cushlon 3.0 foam. The responsive material supports explosive takeoffs while cushioning landings, an important part of a shoe created around Morant’s speed and vertical game. A responsive sockliner complements the foam underfoot and adds another layer of support during play.
The upper uses lightweight foam construction with a textured haptic overlay that adds durability and definition to the surface. A TPU JA Frame wraps the midfoot and helps keep the foot secure during rapid cuts and takeoffs. The structure works with the upper to provide containment during lateral changes in direction.
Traction comes from a durable rubber outsole featuring a pattern inspired by Morant’s logo. Personal references continue through the design. The phrase “If you’re down there, you’re in the way” appears molded into the outsole, while another message from Morant “I don’t only have motion where my feet are at, it’s global” appears along the side of the JA Frame.
The fourth model in Morant’s signature line also introduces new visual elements. Angular details shape the silhouette, while the JA logo takes inspiration from the form of a tooth. Product designer Leon Gu cited Morant’s explosiveness on the ground as an important reference during development, with the design team examining the speed and vertical ability associated with his style of play.
For the NY vs. NY colorway, Persian Violet serves as the dominant shade, joined by Rio Teal, Iron Grey and Fruit Punch. The vivid palette gives the performance model a distinct identity within the early Ja 4 lineup. NY vs. NY logos appear throughout the design, tying the shoe directly to New York streetball and the tournament that inspired the release.
The NY vs. NY pair follows closely after the Ja 4 Nightmare, giving the new signature model two releases within the same week. The Ja 4 NY vs. NY releases on August 15 for $140 through Nike.com and select Nike retailers.
