Nike Basketball introduces the Kobe 10 Protro over a decade after the original Kobe 10 debuted in 2015. The new edition retains the streamlined shape and core design philosophy of Kobe Bryant‘s signature shoe while adding technical updates for current basketball players.

Nike applies its Protro approach, short for “performance retro,” to the upper, cushioning and outsole. Athlete wear testing and data from the Nike Sport Research Lab guided each revision. The development team focused on performance updates while retaining several defining details from the original release.
The Kobe 10 Protro features a redesigned engineered mesh upper. The material increases airflow and flexibility while supporting a secure fit during play. Nike also widened the forefoot to provide additional room and introduced reinforcements in selected areas to strengthen support.
The cushioning system receives one of the largest technical changes. Nike replaces the original Lunarlon midsole and heel Air Zoom setup with Cushlon 3.0 foam and a full-length Zoom Strobel unit. This combination provides responsive cushioning, greater energy return and consistent court contact under the entire foot.
Nike also revised the outsole through Nike Sport Research Lab data. The new construction maintains the traction principles of the 2015 shoe while supporting quick cuts, takeoffs and sudden changes in direction. The outsole aims to give players reliable grip during fast footwork and frequent shifts in pace.
The carbon fiber forefoot wing returns in its original form. The component supports lateral stability during demanding play and remains one of the Kobe 10’s most recognizable technical features. Nike also retains the hidden “Endure and Conquer” message associated with Kobe Bryant and his Mamba Mentality.
The updates target athletes who depend on speed, fast reactions and stable footing. The lightweight structure supports players competing at an elite level as well as athletes developing their skills. The shoe combines cushioning, flexibility, traction and support within a low-profile basketball platform.
The release begins with the Halo colorway on August 23. Nike will introduce additional engineered mesh colorways throughout 2026. Flyknit editions will follow in 2027 and will feature ZoomX foam.
