Bottega Veneta Brings Lightness to the Summer 2027

Bottega Veneta Summer 2027 takes its cue from Milan as spring shifts into summer. Creative Director Louise Trotter considers how changing light, warmer weather and fewer layers alter the way people live, move and dress. The collection approaches this seasonal transition as a moment of possibility, with clothes that create more space around the body and encourage greater freedom of movement.

SPRING SUMMER 2027

Time also shapes the way Trotter approaches Bottega Veneta. Details gradually reveal themselves, asking for closer attention rather than immediate recognition. This idea carries into a collection focused on discovery and the personal relationship between clothing and its wearer.

The transition from spring to summer guides the silhouettes. Trotter treats dressing as a process of removing physical protection as temperatures rise. Clothes sit away from the body and allow air to circulate. Tailoring becomes looser while retaining precision, and leather takes on an unusually light quality. Handwork remains visible through gestures and small imperfections that reveal how the pieces were made.

Ideas around masculine and feminine dressing also become less fixed. The collection allows both to occupy the same wardrobe, giving the wearer room to move between established categories without settling into a neutral position.

Intrecciato continues to provide an important foundation for Bottega Veneta. The technique informs a wider idea of connection between materials, disciplines, gestures and people. Collaboration follows the same principle, extending the concept of interlacing beyond leather. Lightness runs through these ideas, linking physical movement with the optimism associated with the beginning of summer.

Trotter carries the same approach into the Summer 2027 show environment. She reduces the space to neutral tones, using its brightness to evoke the airy quality of the season. Artist Illya Goldman Gubin created the resin-coated Karton Hocker stools used for seating. Each begins as a cardboard box that Goldman Gubin crumples through an embrace, turning an ordinary material into an individual sculptural object. The interlocking cardboard flaps recall the woven leather strips used for Intreccio.

The invitations extend this physical process. Posters depicting a Karton Hocker were individually held and crinkled by Goldman Gubin or different Bottega Veneta employees, giving every print a unique impression.

Artist Florian Hecker created a site-specific sound work as a prelude to the show. Twenty suspended structures pair loudspeakers with stainless steel sound reflectors. Each produces a separate sound that forms part of a cloud-like composition created in the moment and never repeated in the same way.

British artist Mark Leckey produced the collection’s original soundtrack using samples that span genres and periods from the 1960s through the 1990s. The music draws on ideas of optimism, energy and an open future.

A handmade leather flower rests on every seat, introducing color into the otherwise neutral space. The flowers progress from tulips to peonies and lilies, connecting the installation with nature and the arrival of summer. The clothes, objects and sounds frame Summer 2027 around openness, movement and the feeling of wearing less as the season changes.
