Since founding Collina Strada in 2008, Hillary Taymour has developed the label through individuality, joy and purposeful disruption. The Plié brings that perspective to Converse while retaining recognizable elements of the Chuck Taylor.
Split-sole dance footwear provides the main technical reference. Converse and Collina Strada translate that construction into a lightweight, low-profile shoe built around a two-piece midsole. Asymmetrical squared toes alter the familiar Chuck proportions, while textured uppers introduce frayed finishes and custom charms.
Victorian references also inform the design. Those details enter through the shoe’s shape and surface treatment, connecting the structure of dance footwear with Collina Strada’s feminine approach. The resulting form follows the foot closely and responds to movement through its divided sole construction.
The Plié continues the ongoing relationship between Converse and Collina Strada. The two brands approach the collaboration through a shared interest in personal style that resists fixed definitions. Their latest project develops that idea through a shoe designed to feel expressive, versatile and deliberately unconventional.
Collina Strada introduced the Plié as part of its New York Fashion Week presentation at Storm King on September 15. Movement shaped the collection and provided a direct context for the footwear.
