Madonna and Charli xcx have released “Danceteria Afterhours,” a new version of Madonna’s track “Danceteria” and the first musical collaboration between the two artists. Released through Warner Records, the track brings together two careers closely connected with dance music and club culture.

The original “Danceteria” appears on Madonna’s latest album, Confessions II, which reached number one on the album chart. The record explores personal subjects including love, trauma, loss, betrayal and healing. Madonna, Andrew Watt, Cirkut and Stuart Price produced the original version of the song.
“Danceteria Afterhours” follows several public moments involving Madonna and Charli xcx. During Paris Fashion Week, the pair hosted the CLUB CONFESSIONS party with Saint Laurent. Their exchanges on social media later prompted speculation that a musical collaboration could follow.
The new release arrives as Madonna continues to present Confessions II, the follow-up to Confessions on a Dance Floor. The album marks her 15th studio release and has been available across digital platforms since July.
The album continues Madonna’s long-standing view of dance music as a form capable of carrying emotional weight. Within Confessions II, the dance floor functions as a place for escape, connection and survival, giving the record’s club-oriented sound a direct relationship with its themes of loss, trauma and recovery.
The release also precedes Madonna’s return to the MTV Video Music Awards stage. On Sunday, September 27, she will open the ceremony with her first VMA performance in 23 years.
The appearance will mark Madonna’s fifth performance at the awards, maintaining her position as the artist with the most performances in the event’s history. She also leads this year’s nominations with a record 13 nominations, the highest total of her career.
