MM6 Maison Margiela questions the familiar rules of dressing for Spring Summer 2027, using everyday garments to explore how placement, proportion and function can change. Shirts usually cover the torso, skirts begin at the waist, necklines circle the neck and shoulder lines follow the shoulders. The collection shifts those conventions across womenswear and menswear, asking what happens when recognizable pieces take on different roles.
SPRING SUMMER 2027
Womenswear begins by shifting garments around the body. MM6 turns a shirt into a skirt by placing its shoulder line at the hips. A V-neck top can function as a bottom or retain its original role. A skirt becomes a dress when the wearer raises its waistline. Folding, fastening and repositioning expose the original construction of each piece while giving it another use.
The collection keeps those transformations recognizable. A shirt continues to read as a shirt even when the wearer places it elsewhere. MM6 also combines two versions of the same garment within one look. Other pieces relocate familiar archetypes to different parts of the body, with added panels helping each garment work in its new configuration.
Dolls’ clothing provides another reference through enlarged disproportion. Some garments appear shrunken and use simplified closures, creating altered proportions without abandoning familiar clothing types. MM6 treats those changes as functional questions tied to how people dress and adjust garments.
Menswear applies the same thinking through smaller shifts in construction. Shirt collars and button plackets travel away from the center of the body toward one side. The wardrobe stays direct and utilitarian, with tailored suits, biker jackets, shirts, T-shirts and trousers forming its foundation. MM6 changes the placement of details and the points where garments begin and finish.
The brand simplifies construction throughout the collection. Snaps, reduced closures, smaller proportions and flexible fabrics allow wearers to put pieces on, remove them and reposition them quickly. Overdyes, starch treatments and painted surfaces with a papery quality change familiar materials while retaining recognizable garment forms.
Accessories follow similar rules. MM6 turns a glove into a bag and develops a five-toed shoe from the same object. Another shoe uses glove-stitch detailing, while belts reference accessories made for dolls. The Soft Bauletto offers different ways to carry the same object. A wearer can hold it as a conventional bag or let it collapse under the arm until it begins to function closer to clothing.
A collaboration with Havaianas extends the collection’s ideas to the flip-flop. MM6 uses the number six as a design device throughout the project. One version separates into individual toes and adds an extra toe. Another stacks six differently shaped soles together.
Spring Summer 2027 gives the wearer control over placement and use. Garments can turn, fold, double, shift sideways or take on another function. MM6 keeps familiar wardrobe pieces visible throughout the process, then changes the rules that usually determine where and how people wear them.
