After an impactful 11-year tenure, Jonathan Anderson is departing from his role as creative director at Loewe, the LVMH-owned Spanish luxury house. His leadership is credited with guiding Loewe through a period of “exceptional growth,” with CEO Pascale Lepoivre noting that the brand “has risen to new heights with international recognition” under Anderson’s creative vision. Reflecting on his time at Loewe, Anderson expressed gratitude for his team’s support, which enabled him to realize his ambitious ideas, affirming that although his personal chapter at Loewe is ending, he looks forward to seeing the brand’s continued evolution.

Jonathan Anderson reflects on his time at LOEWE, stating, “While reflecting on the last 11 years, I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by people with the imagination, the skills, the tenacity and the resourcefulness to find a way to say ‘yes’ to all my wildly ambitious ideas. While my chapter draws to a close, LOEWE’s story will continue for many years to come, and I will look on with pride, watching it continue to grow, the amazing Spanish brand I once called home.” Sidney Toledano, adviser to LVMH chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault, lauded Anderson as one of the top designers in the industry. Toledano emphasized that Anderson’s contributions extended beyond creative inputs, citing the establishment of a “rich and eclectic world” grounded in craftsmanship that will sustain the brand well into the future.

Anderson’s journey with Loewe began in September 2013, following his recognition in the fashion industry with his own label, JW Anderson. His innovative approach at Loewe, particularly his introduction of the “shared wardrobe” concept, garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, leading to substantial growth in the brand’s revenue, from €230 million in 2014 to an estimated €1.07 billion in 2024. Anderson’s tenure was marked by significant milestones such as the introduction of the iconic Puzzle bag in 2015 and the establishment of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize in 2016, which celebrated traditional craftsmanship.

As the industry speculates on his next steps, with rumors suggesting a potential move to Dior, Anderson’s legacy at Loewe remains distinguished by his transformative contributions to the brand’s aesthetic and commercial success. His strategy of infusing modern design with traditional craftsmanship has not only redefined Loewe’s identity but also set a benchmark in luxury fashion.

His departure marks the end of a significant era for Loewe, but also the beginning of a new chapter for Anderson, whose future endeavors will undoubtedly continue to influence and inspire the fashion industry.

Truly an end of an era for the fashion industry. This year has been such a turbulent one, and i believe it is more than just fashion chairs. Anderson brought Loewe to a whole new level, it is hard to imagine it now without him. Their answer will have to be something completely unexpected. I do hope they are strong enough to select a new name to take over I am such a fan of Loewe and their bags are a dream and the quality is worth the price, i hope whoever comes to the brand as the creative director does not change the Loewe we love.
