Production has officially started in London on the second season of Sweetpea, the Sky Original thriller based on C.J. Skuse’s novel. The show is a razor-edged dark comedy that veers into psychological thriller territory, anchored by Ella Purnell’s sharp, unsettling performance. The series follows a woman whose inner chaos bleeds into the world around her, blurring the lines between victim and perpetrator. What sets it apart is its refusal to offer easy justification, her choices are messy, often cruel, and the show leans into that discomfort. With biting humor and a fractured sense of reality, Sweetpea is less about redemption and more about watching someone unravel with alarming clarity.
Ella Purnell reprises her lead role as Rhiannon Lewis, a quiet editorial assistant whose violent impulses resurface in deadpan detail. Season two finds Rhiannon navigating a promotion at the Carnsham Gazette, a complicated new relationship, and a steadily growing kill list – all with the same deadpan detachment that made the first season so unsettling.
We are thrilled that Sweetpea and the world of Carnsham are back in full swing for Season 2, with new and exciting characters for what promises to be an intoxicating ride for Rhiannon as she continuous on her murderous journey. This chapter introduces new cast members including Rish Shah (Overcompensating, Joy) as Gabriel, who becomes entangled with Rhiannon’s turbulent personal life, and Tamsin Greig (Riot Women, Friday Night Dinner) as Liv, mother to Rhiannon’s ex, AJ. Taj Atwal (Line of Duty, Riot Women) joins as Freya, the new editor at the Gazette, while Jenny Walser (Heartstopper, Star City) appears as Daisy, a devoted newcomer eager for Rhiannon’s approval.
Returning cast members include Jon Pointing, Jeremy Swift, Leah Harvey, Ingrid Oliver, Nitin Ganatra, and Alexandra Dowling. These characters help maintain the show’s tense and satirical tone as Rhiannon finds herself threatened by a copycat killer, a sister planning to sell their family home, and Marina’s continued pursuit.
Episodes 1, 5, and 6 will be directed by Ella Jones, who previously directed Season 1. Coky Giedroyc handles directing duties for episodes 2 through 4. The writing team includes Selina Lim, Emme Hoy, Anna Jordan, and Laura Jayne Tunbridge.
