Brach Madrid Sets the Tone for a New Kind of Stay

Philippe Starck shapes a layered hotel that holds its ground in the city’s most intense corridor.

Brach Madrid arrives with a clear position. Set on Gran Vía, it engages directly with one of Madrid’s most active streets, where movement, commerce, and culture intersect from morning to late night. The hotel does not attempt to quiet the surroundings. It builds its own internal rhythm and invites guests to move between intensity and retreat on their own terms. Arrival carries weight. The shift from the street into the hotel happens quickly, yet it feels intentional, as if each threshold has been considered in advance.

HOTELS

This sense of control defines the experience throughout. Every space carries a distinct atmosphere, yet all remain connected through material and proportion. The hotel reads as a complete environment, where design decisions extend beyond surface into how each area functions and feels over time. There is a clear understanding of pace here, when to compress space, when to open it, and how to guide movement without forcing it.

Location

The Gran Vía address places Brach Madrid at the center of the city’s daily flow. The location works on multiple levels. It offers immediate access to Madrid’s cultural and commercial energy, while also reinforcing the hotel’s identity as part of that environment. Guests step directly into the city, with theaters, shops, and restaurants within minutes. At the same time, the building creates a contained interior that holds distance from the outside pace. This balance between exposure and control defines how the hotel operates.

Design

Philippe Starck constructs the interiors through density and control, using material as the primary driver. Wood, leather, metal, and layered textiles define each surface, building depth without relying on ornament. Objects, books, and artworks sit with intention, creating an environment that feels composed from the outset. Light stays measured and directional, shaping atmosphere while keeping the focus on texture and form. Every element holds weight, and the space gains presence through accumulation and precision.

“ The room is sentimental. The walls are not made of shagreen, but of history, little scars, little details. You’re completely in the realm of the emotional.” – Philippe Starck.

The layout guides movement with clarity. Transitions between spaces feel deliberate, with shifts in scale and light marking each zone without interruption. The design maintains continuity while allowing each area to carry its own atmosphere. Circulation flows naturally, supported by strong alignments and controlled proportions. The result reads as a complete interior system where material, structure, and movement operate together with consistency.

Rooms

Rooms extend this approach into a more private scale. Proportions remain tight and deliberate, guiding how each space is used without excess. Surfaces carry texture and weight, reinforcing a sense of enclosure that separates the interior from the city outside.

Light enters in controlled ways, enhancing comfort without exposing the space. Storage, circulation, and layout all follow a clear logic, ensuring that the rooms support daily routines with ease. The experience feels grounded, with nothing superfluous interrupting the flow.

Spa

The spa continues the same design language but shifts the pace even further. The environment closes in, with low light, enclosed spaces, and a strong sense of separation from the outside. Materials remain tactile, reinforcing the physical experience of the space.

We had a massage here that defined the stay. The treatment felt precise and focused, with a rhythm that slowed everything down. It created a complete reset. The kind of experience that stays present long after it ends. The spa operates as a core part of the hotel rather than an added feature, and it carries the same level of attention as the rest of the project.

Dining

Dining at Brach Madrid carries the same control and clarity found throughout the hotel, while introducing a more social rhythm that shifts from day to night. The space fills gradually, drawing a mix of guests and locals, yet it never loses its structure. Service moves with confidence, keeping the experience tight and well-paced without interruptions.

We focused on a selection of dishes that stayed precise in execution and direct in flavor. The grilled fish stood out immediately, clean, balanced, and cooked with exact timing. A rich, slow-cooked meat dish followed, deep in flavor yet controlled, without excess. We also tried a lighter plate built around seasonal vegetables, which held its own through texture and clarity. Each dish arrived resolved, without unnecessary elements, making the menu feel focused and considered from start to finish.

Brach Madrid operates with a clear understanding of how design shapes experience. The hotel creates its own structure within a highly active part of the city, guiding guests through spaces that feel considered at every level. It establishes a pace that holds steady, allowing each moment, from arrival to departure, to unfold with purpose.
