A carefully restored hotel brings together architecture, design, and a fully developed hospitality experience.

Rosewood Vienna enters the city with a clear position, grounded in architecture and shaped through a precise understanding of place. Located in the Old Town, the hotel occupies four interconnected 19th century buildings, restored and restructured by BEHF Architects into a single, continuous system. The project preserves the Neoclassical façades that define the street while reorganizing the interior with a contemporary spatial logic. This approach allows the building to remain anchored in Vienna’s architectural identity while supporting a new program built around movement, light, and proportion.

HOTELS

From the first moment inside, the experience unfolds through sequence rather than spectacle. Spaces transition with intention, guiding guests through a layered environment that connects public and private areas without disruption. Material selection, surface treatment, and object placement establish a sense of order that carries throughout the property. The design does not rely on excess or visual noise. Instead, it builds atmosphere through restraint, where every element contributes to a larger structure that feels coherent and controlled.

Location

Set near Petersplatz, Rosewood Vienna places guests within immediate reach of the city’s cultural and architectural landmarks. The location allows for a direct connection to Vienna’s daily rhythm, with museums, galleries, and historic streets within walking distance. This proximity shapes how the hotel is experienced, removing the need for separation between destination and accommodation. Morning walks move seamlessly into the city, while evenings return to a quieter version of the same streets, creating a natural balance between activity and retreat.

The positioning also reinforces the architectural logic of the project. By remaining fully embedded within the Old Town, the hotel operates as part of the urban fabric rather than as an isolated destination. Views, sound, and movement from the surrounding streets continue to inform the interior experience, maintaining a constant link between inside and outside.

Design

BEHF Architects approach the project with clarity, bringing four historic structures into alignment through careful intervention. The preserved façades maintain the original presence of the buildings, while the interior introduces a new order defined by proportion and material continuity. Movement through the space feels deliberate, guided by shifts in scale, light, and surface.

Salon Aurelie defines one of the central moments within the design. A hand-painted mural wraps the room, establishing a continuous visual field that anchors the space. Chandeliers by Lobmeyr distribute light with precision, while Backhausen textiles introduce texture without interrupting the overall composition. A ceramic installation referencing the Danube adds another layer of context, tying the interior directly to Vienna’s geography. These elements work together as part of a structured system, reinforcing the architectural framework rather than competing within it.

Rooms

The rooms and suites extend the same design logic into more private environments. Layouts prioritize proportion and clarity, allowing each space to function with ease. Furniture placement aligns with architectural lines, creating a sense of order that supports both movement and rest. Materials remain consistent with the broader design language, ensuring continuity across the entire property.

There is a strong sense of balance within each room. Light enters in a controlled manner, surfaces remain defined, and transitions between different areas feel natural. The result is an environment that supports daily use while maintaining a clear architectural identity.

Wellness

Asaya Spa introduces a quieter, more contained atmosphere within the hotel. The design focuses on controlled environments, using light, proportion, and material to establish a sense of calm. Spaces transition gradually, guiding guests through treatment areas, sauna, steam bath, and experiential showers.

Treatments follow a research-driven approach, developed in collaboration with Augustinus Bader. The experience feels structured and precise, with attention given to both physical and sensory detail. The massage stands out as a defining moment, delivering a high level of care that aligns with the broader attention to detail present throughout the hotel.

Dining

Dining at Rosewood Vienna takes place within spaces that extend the architectural narrative of the building. Neue Hoheit Restaurant and Bar sits above the city, offering wide views across Vienna while maintaining a controlled interior environment. The menu focuses on Austrian cuisine, interpreted through seasonal ingredients and a clear approach to preparation.

The rooftop setting introduces a different pace as the day progresses, shifting from structured dining to a more relaxed evening atmosphere. The space adapts through light and use, maintaining its identity while accommodating different moments. Each element, from layout to service, contributes to a cohesive experience that connects back to the overall design of the hotel.

Rosewood Vienna presents a fully considered approach where architecture, design, and hospitality operate within a single system. Every element aligns with a clear structure, allowing the experience to develop with consistency and purpose.
