Prime Video has shared the official trailer for Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter and confirmed an August 20 premiere. The feature-length documentary follows the Serbian tennis champion from his early years on difficult courts in Serbia to his record-setting career at the highest level of men’s tennis. Prime Video will stream the film exclusively in over 240 countries and territories.

TV

Jason Hehir, the director of The Last Dance, directs the documentary for Connor Schell’s Words + Pictures and Sadoux Productions. The film examines the experiences, relationships and personal demands behind Djokovic’s career while he continues to compete against players sometimes half his age.

Djokovic has won 24 Grand Slam singles titles, the highest total in men’s tennis history. He has also recorded over 1,100 career singles victories, earned an Olympic gold medal and spent a record 428 weeks at No. 1. He also holds the Open Era record for Grand Slam appearances. The documentary uses those achievements as one part of a broader study of an athlete who has inspired strong admiration and intense criticism throughout his career.

The film returns to Djokovic’s childhood in Serbia, where he grew up during war, conflict and financial hardship. His family made major sacrifices to support his tennis ambitions. When he entered professional tennis, fans already treated Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal as the defining rivalry of the era. Many viewers saw Djokovic as an unwanted challenger who disrupted that established dynamic.

Djokovic brought an openly emotional and intense presence to matches. He expressed frustration, joy and determination directly, and his reactions sometimes created tension with spectators. The documentary examines how those qualities shaped his competitive identity and public image. It also considers the difficult periods that accompanied the drive behind his success.

The production gained exclusive access to Djokovic during major tournaments, demanding training sessions and private time with family and friends. The film includes personal interviews with Djokovic, his wife Jelena and members of his family. Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Boris Becker and Jim Courier also contribute their views.

Media figures Mary Carillo, Patrick McEnroe, Howard Bryant, Chris Clarey and Matthew Futterman provide further commentary. Their interviews help the documentary examine Djokovic as a player, husband, father, friend and polarizing cultural figure.

Djokovic explains that tennis gave him an extraordinary career, while many of his hardest battles took place away from competition. He discusses doubt, sacrifice and the work required to keep developing beyond the familiar public account of his life. He also credits his family, team, friends and supporters, and he describes his career as an ongoing chapter.

Hehir says he has long studied the forces that drive elite athletes after they reach the peak of their sport. Djokovic gave the production extensive access to his physical and mental preparation as he continued competing at the highest level. That access also allowed Hehir and his team to observe Djokovic’s family life, friendships and stubborn nature. Hehir describes the film as an examination of a great athlete facing a crucial stage late in his career.

Prime Video Sports presents Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter. Words + Pictures produces the film with Little Room Films, in association with Sweet Relief and Sadoux Productions. Hehir directs and serves as an executive producer through Little Room Films.

Connor Schell, Libby Geist, Alexa Conway, Aaron Cohen and Nick Eisenberg serve as executive producers for Words + Pictures. Sadoux Kim represents Sadoux Productions among the executive producers. Jeff Blackburn, Alexandra Dell and William P. Zagger complete the executive production team.
