Cecilie Bahnsen reunites with ASICS SportStyle for the GEL-KINETIC FR, a new sneaker inspired by the movement of flowers. Falling petals, growing stems and shifting organic forms inform the design, which translates that motion into a layered technical silhouette.
SNEAKERS
The sneaker arrives in two colorways, “Piedmont Grey Silver” and “Black Coffee.” Both versions place Bahnsen’s romantic visual language within an ASICS performance framework, using texture, shine and floral detailing to reshape the character of the shoe.
A fine micro-textured base forms the foundation of the upper and gives the surface a softly semi-matte finish. Light catches across the material with a subtle strobe-like effect, while debossed, embossed and high-frequency floral motifs build depth across the sneaker.
Glossy finishes and transparent overlays add another layer to the upper, creating shifts between matte and high-shine surfaces. Flower charms and delicate beads introduce movement around the shoe, while flower-shaped eyelets extend the botanical theme into the lacing system.
Bahnsen’s signature drawcord lacing runs through the upper and combines with adjustable Velcro straps for a more technical arrangement. A softly padded half tongue supports the construction and adds another functional element to the sneaker. These details give the GEL-KINETIC FR a complex upper built around both decoration and utility.
The sole keeps the design grounded in ASICS performance technology. A sculptural GEL heel structure provides lightweight cushioning and impact absorption, giving the sneaker an athletic foundation beneath its more expressive upper.
The project continues the ongoing partnership between Cecilie Bahnsen and ASICS, with the GEL-KINETIC FR extending their approach to performance footwear through new proportions, textures and material treatments.
The campaign develops the same idea through imagery by artist and photographer Isabelle Wenzel. Shot at an open-air theatre in Copenhagen, the photographs use movement and abstraction to present fragmented bodies against the architecture of the space. The Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS GEL-KINETIC FR will release on September 12 through the ASICS website.
