Inditex, the parent company of beloved brands like ZARA, BERSHKA, PULL & BEAR, and Massimo Dutti, is making a resounding statement by commiting to a new fabric. Picture this: a fabric born from a transformational process that begins with discarded cotton textile waste. This is the essence of Circulose®, a groundbreaking textile pulp crafted by the Swedish company Renewcell. Inditex, with its visionary commitment to utilizing textile raw materials that have a reduced impact on our planet by the year 2030, has decided to incorporate this remarkable innovation into its collections.
But, of course, fashion is a complex web of creativity and craftsmanship. Enter Tangshan Sanyou, the fiber producer responsible for the intricate alchemy that turns Circulose® pulp into exquisite textile fibers. Under a visionary agreement, Inditex’s suppliers are poised to procure the first 2,000 tonnes of raw material, a harmonious blend of Circulose® and cellulose sourced from sustainably-managed forests. This synergy of innovation and sustainability is a testament to the fashion giant’s unwavering commitment to redefining the industry’s ecological footprint.
Renewcell, in its pursuit of textile excellence, has inaugurated its first industrial-scale plant dedicated to the production of Circulose®. This revolutionary textile pulp is borne from the reincarnation of discarded cotton waste through a meticulous chemical process. Inditex, true to its ethos, is embarking on a gradual journey of introducing this fully-recycled pulp into its fabrics. As the seasons unfold, this commitment will extend through the extensive network of suppliers, creating ripples of sustainable change within the fashion landscape.
The inclusion of Circulose® in Inditex’s collections is not merely a fashion statement; it’s a stride forward on their path to realizing a meticulously planned roadmap. Their ambitious goal: to exclusively utilize textile fibers with a minimal environmental footprint by 2030. At least 25% of these fibers will be sourced from next-generation materials that, until now, have remained outside the purview of large-scale industry. This vision seamlessly aligns with Canopy’s mission to champion next-generation cellulose fibers.
With Circulose® at the heart of their collections, we might be in front of a true revolution within the fast fashion industry. Nonetheless, if anyone is leading the way into greenwashing it is the fast fashion giants.
