Rihanna‘s iconic creeper is making a bold return in the FENTY x PUMA Pre-Fall 2024 collection. This time, it’s reimagined as the Creeper Phatty, a shoe that takes the classic design to new heights with an oversized silhouette, a stacked gum sole, and vibrant pops of color. Designed and named by Rihanna herself, the Creeper Phatty represents a daring evolution of the original creeper, available in three dynamic colorways for people of all ages and genders.
The Creeper Phatty stands for extra confidence, style, and everything in between. Rihanna’s vision was to bring back the beloved Creeper, but with a twist that’s both bold and culturally relevant. The original Creeper, launched in September 2015, was a platformed rendition of PUMA’s iconic Suede sneaker. It was a groundbreaking design that won the “Shoe of the Year” award from Footwear News in 2016, significantly influencing sneaker culture and enhancing PUMA’s brand impact.
Detailing on the Creeper Phatty includes suede wrapping, a padded and debossed formstrip, a debossed Fenty logo on the tongue, laces with gold aglets, and the standout stacked gum sole. The color options include black and white, blue and green, and lavender and cherry red, each bringing a unique flair to the design.
Rihanna, serving as the Creative Director for her FENTY x PUMA line, worked with photographer Philippa Price for the campaign, exploring the contrast between a creep and a phatty attitude. This highlights the shoe’s oversized and bright elements, staying true to Rihanna’s innovative and trendsetting style.
Maria Valdes, Chief Product Officer at PUMA, expressed her excitement about the Creeper Phatty’s return. She acknowledged the original Creeper’s significant impact on the brand and the sneaker world. “This shoe has universal appeal and we’ve seen tremendous consumer excitement for the silhouette to return. We are excited to not only be able to build upon the existing silhouette with the Creeper Phatty but also expand our offering to the entire family.“
The FENTY x PUMA Creeper Phatty will be available worldwide on puma.com and at global retailers starting November 30, 2023, at 10 am EST.
