Wales Bonner‘s “The Marathon” Spring Summer 2024 campaign, photographed by Malick Bodian in Paris, is inspired by Reflections of a long distance runner: the silent messenger, the unwavering spirit striding, soaring.
Featuring champion runners Tamirat Tola and Yomif Kejelcha, the campaign highlights the season’s bespoke tailoring, ready-to-wear, and footwear. The collection is characterized by its unique use of materials, such as horsehair canvas and sheepskin suede, and intricate details like the Ethiopian Tibeb fabric. The womenswear segment, represented by model Lara Menezes, includes standout pieces like the Truth Jacket, notable for its technical cotton and hand-embroidered detailing.
The Wales Bonner Spring Summer 2024 collection is inspired by endurance, belief, and the beauty of continuous movement. The collection integrates Ethiopian and Kenyan running legends’ philosophies with fashion, paying tribute to icons like Gebreselassie, Dibaba, and Kipchoge. It celebrates the journey, embracing life missions and soulful pursuits. The designs feature artisanal craftsmanship, like the Tibeb fabric woven in Addis Ababa and hand-embroidered raffia, reflecting a deep commitment to traditional techniques.
This season, Wales Bonner explores diverse influences, blending shepherd and equestrian silhouettes with modern fashion elements. The collection includes check outerwear, rawhide skirts, and bouclé knitwear, paired with calfskin riding boots made in partnership with Himco. The collaboration with adidas Originals adds a sporty edge, featuring a special tribute to Haile Gebreselassie’s Berlin Marathon win. The collection’s soundtrack, produced by James William Blades and Grace Wales Bonner, features Ethiopian artist HaddinQo, adding a rich, cultural layer to the presentation.
