Avavav FW24: Challenging Online Hate on the Runway

The Avavav FW24 runway show serves as a bold statement, offering a dark satire on the manifestation of internet hate when translated into physical space. This conceptual presentation delves into the irony of opinionated internet users and the hyperreality of the virtual landscape. Drawing parallels to medieval methods of handling polarization, the show questions what would happen if online hate were expressed through physical aggression in the real world.

Renowned for its conceptual creativity and daring approach, Avavav has garnered global attention for its thought-provoking ideas and distinctive silhouettes. Creative director Beate Karlsson‘s penchant for irony and the exploration of strong emotions is evident in this season’s collection, which delves into the dichotomy of love and hate surrounding the brand. Through the runway show, Karlsson aims to challenge the primitive nature of internet behavior and spark discourse on societal attitudes towards online expression.

On the Avavav FW24 runway, models serve as symbols of resilience, stoically enduring the onslaught of garbage thrown at them by the audience. This visceral display embodies the energy and philosophy behind the collection, reflecting Karlsson’s commitment to disregarding external perceptions and focusing solely on elevating the brand’s identity. The collection itself merges street influences with a gothic, feminine flair, featuring innovative silhouettes like the “shoulderless” hoodie and sculpted caps inspired by sporty cycling helmets. Additionally, the debut of the Avavav x Eastpak capsule collection adds a new dimension to the show, showcasing reimagined classics alongside inventive accessories that push the boundaries of conventional fashion.
