The Maison de l’Amérique Latine in Paris serves as the elegant setting for Roger Vivier‘s latest presentation, VIVIER OP-TICAL, curated by creative director Gherardo Felloni. Drawing inspiration from the Op Art movement of the 1960s, the collection immerses visitors in a visual feast of psychedelic geometries and graphic wonders. Felloni’s reinterpretation of Roger Vivier’s mid-century designs, coupled with the Maison’s modern romanticism, creates a captivating journey through the Fall Winter 2024/2025 shoe, handbag, jewellery, and accessory collections.
As guests enter the opulent hôtel particulier, they are immediately enveloped in a world of optical illusions and vibrant perspectives. From checkerboard marble floors to spiraling vortexes, each room unfolds with theatrical opulence, showcasing Monsieur Vivier’s iconic artworks and designs. The presentation seamlessly blends contemporary renditions with nods to Vivier’s sleek and pioneering aesthetic from the 1960s, marking a transformative period for the Maison. Key highlights of the collection include the Viv’ Choc handbag, reimagined in monochrome gestures and adorned with modern panache, alongside the iconic Viv’Canard kitten-heels embellished with the Maison’s classic buckle. The juxtaposition of black and gold in the salon creates a mesmerizing effect, accentuating the alchemical powers of gold while highlighting the Maison’s signature designs, from cuissardes boots to Belle Vivier pumps.
On the first floor, the Optical Zebra salon pays homage to Monsieur Vivier’s love for animal motifs, particularly the zebra pattern prevalent in his archival designs. Vibrant hues of scarlet and royal purple adorn the space, echoing the season’s soft suede and calf hair creations. The waistcoat, a central adornment in Roger Vivier’s repertoire, receives a contemporary makeover with diverse embellishments ranging from ornate metal studs to fringe accents.
The culmination of the VIVIER OP-TICAL experience is a playful homage to the iconic Belle Vivier shoe, immortalized by Catherine Deneuve in “Belle de Jour” (1965). A theatrical designer’s studio unveils artistic interpretations of the Belle Vivier, showcasing patchworked geometric colorways and live demonstrations of craft ‘know-how.’ Through choreographed moments of live performance, ‘artisan’ dancers bring to life the savoir faire of Roger Vivier’s craftsmen, celebrating the behind-the-scenes magic of true luxury and expertise.
