Being significant for the latest line of Austrian designer Rebekka Ruétz is the use of strong, expressive contrasts that reflect the sun. Darkness and light, transformation and renewal, life and death are the main topics that the designer deals with and that are expressed in her styles. Matching this captivating collections’ inspiration, contrary elements are often mixed and matched. Thus, the overall impression of this range is a highly inimitable one.
“Usually a thought, an idea, won’t let me go and then I start researching, delving deeper into the topic and in the end it all makes sense,” declares Rebekka as she describes the creative process of her design work.
This season, her first spark of inspiration was a physicist’s text. This wording focused on the phenomenon of the black hole in the sun and solar flares to Egyptian mythology. Exactly this motif can be spotted in her very unique, own designed, eye-catching prints. Matching this compelling collection’s inspiration, the unique patterns show a solar eclipse, a red moon, hierogylphs and symbols of the sun god Horus. Once more the material choice stands out due to its sustainable character: it contains of environmentally-friendly materials such as hand-picked lace, fine organic cotton, organic denim and vegan leather from protective silhouettes that interplay with delicate textures and are supported by recycled accessories. With this fabric choice the brand proves anew that it is committed to social responsibility, high quality and takes great care of environmental standards.
“One thing leds to another. So my new collection is once again a creative expression of how I understand the world.” states Rebekka Ruétz.
Her colour choice contains of bold, high-contrast nuances, such as sunburst red, check black, black-hole black, fog grey, polar white, off-white, ice blue and royal gold. To symbolize flashing pulses of light, LED threats have been added into the looks. Sometimes they also illuminate the accessories. In addition to that, recycled left-over cell phone cases as well as bags and jewellery that was created by using recycled acrylic glass effect additional strength to the basic concept of transformation and renewal. The overall impression of this striking set feels like a solar flare.
The variety of pieces of this line is a very large one, it contains of over-sized jackets, suits, casual sweaters, coats, skirts in different cuts and lengths and cool vests. Comfortable and stylish retro-inspired Skechers sneakers round off the lavish looks and contributed to the feelgood factor of the models that were walking down the runway. Worth of mentioning is also the fact the show was also part of the WE.4.FASHIONDAY. In the context of this event, additionally to the invited guests, 200 tickets were sold for a good cause. This time the profit will be split and donated to same parts to Children for Tomorrow and the TVB (Tierschutzverein Berlin). “Black Sun” stays in mind due to its extremely unique and powerful overall picture.
