Joe Freshgoods, a Chicago-based designer, has once again partnered with New Balance for a unique interpretation of the 990v6 silhouette, this time in two colorways: “Paris Red” and “Prom Blue.” Known for his visionary approach to streetwear and sneaker design, Joe Freshgoods has become a known figure in the fashion industry.

The unveiling of these new designs was subtly teased in an Instagram post that quickly captured the attention of fans. Among the visuals were sneak peeks of the sneakers themselves, nestled among other thematic elements that highlighted their aesthetic and color schemes.

“Paris Red” embraces a monochrome theme that’s relatively rare for the New Balance 990 series. This choice aligns with Joe’s flair for dramatic, eye-catching designs. The sneaker has a rich combination of mesh, nubuck, and leather. This design subtly nods to the legendary Air Yeezy 2 Red October, suggesting a kinship in bold, monochromatic expression.

In contrast, “Prom Blue” presents a cooler, tonal light blue palette that covers its mesh and suede upper. This choice has a more serene aesthetic, perfect for those looking to make a quieter statement. The inclusion of “JFG” debossed on the heel stamps Joe’s signature on the design, marking it as an exclusive piece of the collaborative work between him and New Balance.

The initial release of these sneakers was at Joe Freshgoods’ “Friend Named Cousin” exhibition in Paris, which served as a launch pad for the shoes and an event celebrating racial diversity and inclusion within the community. Following the exhibition, the sneakers were made available through a raffle on Joe Freshgoods’ website, allowing fans worldwide to participate in this exclusive drop.

The sneakers retail for $220 each and are packaged in special boxes that feature a gradient design, with the global release date on August 9 approaching. Take a closer look at the sneakers in the gallery below:
