The adidas SL 72 Cow Print reinvents a heritage design with a playful twist, blending performance-driven functionality with a contemporary aesthetic. First introduced at the 1972 Munich Olympics, the SL 72 was developed for track-and-field athletes seeking lightweight, high-performance footwear. It pioneered adidas’ use of nylon uppers and EVA midsoles, reducing weight while providing essential cushioning and flexibility. The debut of the Trefoil logo on this silhouette marked a turning point in adidas’ branding.
Designed with practicality in mind, the original SL 72 featured a textured outsole for superior grip and a rubber toe protector for durability. Its sleek, low-profile shape catered to athletes but transitioned easily into streetwear, thanks to its understated yet versatile design.

The Cow Print edition builds on this legacy with modern updates. Faux fur in a striking black-and-white pattern wraps the upper, creating a textured and visually impactful look. Cream leather overlays on the Three Stripes and heel balance the playful design, while pastel pink accents on the branding and midsole streak add a subtle modern touch.

Functionality remains a cornerstone of the SL 72. The lightweight nylon upper ensures comfort and breathability, while suede overlays reinforce durability. The EVA midsole provides cushioning for extended wear, and the gum rubber outsole enhances grip for versatile use.

Following the success of other animal-inspired models, such as the faux fur Samba series, the SL 72 Cow Print merges adidas’ design history with current trends. Launching in Spring 2025, the adidas SL 72 Cow Print will be available at select adidas Originals retailers and online.
