LOEWE has unveiled a new icon in its accessories repertoire with the introduction of The Madrid, a leather bag that draws its name from the house’s birthplace. Crafted in luxuriously soft calfskin, the design debuted on the Spring Summer 2025 runway at the Château de Vincennes in Paris, marking a moment of quiet refinement within Jonathan Anderson’s evolving vision for the house. Its trapezoidal silhouette signals a return to elegance, reimagined with a modern touch.

The structure of The Madrid feels intentionally soft, but it is far from simple. Generous pleats along the sides give the bag a sculptural fluidity, which can be cinched with tubular leather straps that gather the bag’s form. Tactile padded shoulder pieces add comfort and depth, reinforcing LOEWE’s longstanding relationship with leather as both material and language. The calfskin used for the bag was specially developed to offer a velvety hand feel and a subtle lustre.

The bag’s interior is lined with smooth nappa leather, maintaining a sense of intimacy and tactile pleasure. Functional yet elegant, it features a magnetic closure decorated with a golden Pebble, an element that reads like both hardware and jewelry. Another subtle but striking detail is an exaggerated asymmetric zip, which lends the otherwise balanced silhouette an unexpected, offbeat twist, one of Anderson’s signatures.

As part of the Spring Summer 2025 campaign, The Madrid finds its mood through the lens of photographer David Sims. Canadian actress and director Taylor Russell leads the campaign, wandering barefoot through the mist-draped woodlands of the Collsacabra mountains in Catalonia. Her unguarded movement through the landscape echoes the bag’s natural fluidity, making for a compelling visual narrative.

The release of The Madrid also serves as a love letter to the brand’s origins. LOEWE was founded in Madrid in 1846, and while it has evolved into a global fashion presence under Anderson’s artistic direction, it continues to root its identity in the Spanish capital. Naming the bag after the city not only nods to the house’s heritage but reaffirms its commitment to artisanal leatherwork, still carried out in its Madrid-based ateliers.

Available starting 3 April, The Madrid will be offered in three sizes, small, medium, and large, and in a curated palette of Black, Dark Burgundy, Olive, and Burnt Red. In a season where bags continue to anchor runway storytelling, The Madrid quietly asserts itself as a new LOEWE signature.
