Singer-songwriter Alex Sampson fronts the July 2025 digital cover of MMSCENE Magazine, photographed by Kevin Sikorski with styling by Fern Legadoe and grooming by Blondie Gamon. The Canadian artist, who grew up in Atikokan, Ontario, gained early attention through original songs and covers shared online. His breakout moment came with a performance of “Pretty Baby” on America’s Got Talent in 2024, which carried him to the semi-finals and drew praise from both the judges and viewers.
His 2024 EP Hopeless Romantic offered a heartfelt mix of ballads exploring love, hope, and heartbreak. He toured with Alexander Stewart on the Homecoming Tour, and later joined Jamie Miller on the U.S. dates of the Long Way Home World Tour. This month, Sampson releases his new single “Growing Pains” on July 18, followed by a live performance at Hudson Yards in New York on July 23 as part of the Summer Concert Series at the Wells Fargo Stage.

In conversation with our editor Katarina Djoric, Sampson shares how songwriting has always served as a personal outlet. For him, lyrics begin with raw feeling, often scribbled down or shaped through candid conversations in the studio. He explains how his upbringing gave him both emotional clarity and a sense of purpose, qualities that continue to shape the tone of his work.
Fans play a central role in how he creates and releases music. Their feedback often guides his decisions in the studio, especially when thinking about live performance. Sampson aims to craft songs that invite participation, choosing melodies and lyrics that translate well onstage. He recalls the moment he first heard one of his songs playing in public: a surreal experience inside an LA Fitness gym that reminded him how far he’s come.

In the interview, he also talks about experimenting with different genres, from pop rock to sounds inspired by the 1960s, as he prepares for his next EP. This upcoming project marks a new phase for him as an artist. He describes it as his most personal yet, with a stronger focus on identity and honesty. Alongside the music, he teases plans for a headline tour, new merchandise, and other surprises still under wraps.
Away from the stage, Sampson keeps his routines simple. He enjoys video games, reading poolside, and spending time with friends. He’s also been getting into cooking, something he hasn’t shared publicly until now. Style-wise, he calls himself a “t-shirt and blue jean type of guy,” though he remains open to trying new looks. His pocket Bible is one item he never leaves behind while on tour.
