UNIQLO has announced Cate Blanchett as its newest Global Brand Ambassador, a partnership that pairs the Academy Award, BAFTA, and Golden Globe-winning actor with the global apparel retailer’s LifeWear philosophy. LifeWear promotes excellence in design, support for future generations, and contributions that reach beyond fashion.
UNIQLO Founder and Fast Retailing Chairman, President, and CEO Tadashi Yanai explained the reasoning behind the partnership. “Ms. Blanchett is among the greatest actors of her generation – on stage and on screen. But our admiration goes beyond entertainment. Her passion and engagement is evident in her contributions as a role model for women and her mentorship of emerging film and theatre artists, as well as her long standing commitment to humanitarian and environmental causes. Through our partnership, we will work together to make positive changes in the world around us.”
Blanchett, equally enthusiastic about the collaboration, spoke of UNIQLO’s values and her interest in advancing them. “I value the ambition of UNIQLO to make life better through its LifeWear apparel: design, perfected simplicity, affordable, accessible, quality clothing that lasts. I am energised by the opportunity to help UNIQLO advance important aspects of its LifeWear philosophy – supporting the next generation, playing a part in combatting the ongoing global displacement crisis, giving back to communities, and finding meaningful ways to contribute to a more equitable world. On top of that, to creatively reconnect with Clare Waight Keller and to be in dialogue with UNIQLO Global Brand Ambassador, Roger Federer, is a privilege indeed.”
The actor’s career spans decades and continues to shape film and theatre. Known for acclaimed roles in Tár, Carol, The Aviator, Blue Jasmine, and Elizabeth, Blanchett has also made her mark on Broadway, the West End, and leading theatres worldwide. Beyond acting, she has created opportunities in the industry itself. She served as co-Artistic Director and co-CEO of Sydney Theatre Company and co-founded Dirty Films, a production company with international recognition. Her work in fashion has also secured her place on best-dressed lists globally, reinforcing her reputation as a style figure in her own right.
UNIQLO considers Blanchett an ideal ambassador not only for her artistic achievements but also for her humanitarian efforts. As a Global Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), she has consistently advocated for displaced people. Her influence extends further through roles such as member of the Earthshot Prize Council, inaugural Ambassador for Wakehurst’s Millennium Seed Bank, and board member of the UK’s National Theatre. She also serves as Patron of the Sydney Film Festival and the NIDA Foundation. Conservation and industry-focused organizations she supports include the Australian Conservation Foundation, the Actors Benevolent Fund, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, and the Australian Wildlife Conservancy.
This partnership builds on UNIQLO’s commitment to connect its LifeWear philosophy with figures who embody excellence and purpose in their fields. Blanchett’s career, humanitarian record, and global influence present an opportunity for the retailer to advance projects with social impact while also reinforcing the LifeWear message of accessible quality and thoughtful design.
